I'm replacing the engine and gearbox mounts on my touring and I was wondering if there was a better designed engine mount that will fit from another BMW?

I've got e28 M5 engine mounts on my 318is as they are a better mount. I know about the hockey puck groupbuy but I'd rather stick with BMW supplied parts.

Anyone?

Ah, I was hoping you'd surface mate.

You mean these? Can't find the exact poly mounts you mentioned.

I can't seem to find the mounts mentioned by Ant but I've just come up with a solution.

I will update people when I have pics, just got to get some machining done.

Those are the Vibra Technics mounts.
They make E30 ones as well, although RD don't seem to list them.

The £6 ones are Mk1/2 Escort H/D mounts.
There are 2 sizes, 35mm and 50mm.
It's teh 50mm ones you need.

I can see 50mm on there but they're not £6, they're £43.17.

Cheers Dave, I looked through the engine/gearbox & suspension mounts section and still couldn't find them. :thumb: It must be my turn to be thick today.

I had to look up the catologue to get the part number in order to find it on the website.

If you want to lower the engine and up-rate the mount then get some landrover engine mounts, perfect for a track car, like having the engine sat on lumps of wood :D

Marc/Jon

I've just measured the ones holding up the M20 and they appear to be in the region of 40mm when compressed.
AFAIK they are std BMW mounts.

Too short for an M30! Needed to space them up a bit to let the sump clear the steering rack. You really need to measure what you have currently, and the amount of clearance you have.

Current mounts are around 40mm iirc (too late to double check now) so i ordered a pair of 50mm mounts :)

It says that about six posts up! :)

I went with the 35mm ones with the thought that I could easily space them by 5mm, and I didn't really want to end up with the engine 10mm higher.

Anyone tried the Landrover one's and know what size they are?

Will they fit and not cause a problem like Ziggy's above?
