just thinking what you'll need to turbo the m50 and who has done it ?
Ive heard the non vanos is better for turboing is this due to difficulty's mapping the vanos with the turbo?
I'm asking because ill be looking at doing this to mine at the end of this year maybe if all goes well

And a mate is in the process of turboing his car and hes not gonna beat me down the strip

for long.

There's a guy on here with an M50 turbo touring, there's a thread somewhere in the photo gallary I think. Looks monstrous.

i am turbocharging my e30 m50, its a vanos engine but its not really a problem as the vanos is either on or off so can be switched easily by my ecu. i made a manifold using a m52 one mounted upside down.

what sort of mannagement are you using also would you need a wide band lamber sensor (i think thats wot it is?)?

my ecu is a gotech v5, if you are going to map it yourself then yes you need a wideband lambda kit.

so ure using standard wiring just changed the ecu to a mappable one? also what do you mean map it myself you mean on the rollers ? have you just downloaded a map then ?
sorry for all the questions

the ecu was supplied with a wiring loom and also a base map.
at the moment i am making a exhaust downpipe and system, when its finished, i can start mapping it on a quiet bit of road near where i live, i am going to use my wide band lambda kit to sort it out. then when the car is ready i will take it to a rolling road and have it set up properly.

M50 is quite a nice engine to turbo. Friend of mine is building one at the moment.
Non-vanos is easier to go with.
www.pure-pf.com / forum / projekt is worth checking, lots of awesome e30 turbo projects going on in there
