No way Dave it's all too much 8O

I've stripped the lump down for a inspection, crank looks nice should just need a polish, shells main+big ends ready for replacement but bad for 170k on the clock. Oil leaks everywhere! New seals required all round and immense amount of cleaning of parts

Pictures 2moro as i compose myself but as always the bills just gone up! :( :D

Bloody cars, i just had to look though. Engine will be more of a peach when done and ready for loads more miles. Heads off aswell i gave in to it! Interesting work by Alpina on the chambers also i can see

I've gave in because it will make life 100% easier when it comes to doing the shells for the sake of a gasket, bolts and a good peek!

Barry no oversize valves  but we kinda knew that, this just confirmed it though!

I can't the moneys not there for all of that as much as i want to do it maybe. anyhow it had a TOTAL overhaul 40,000 ago on the top end. It all looks fine, i can't see/feel any visible wear on the cam and it doesn't smoke. Plus it's quiet when its running. I didn't touch the clearances on the tappets when i first bought it and serviced it.

I don't mind fixing repairing stuff but well, i'm sure theres a couple of ponies locked up in what needs doing.

The zone can spend your money sometimes if you let it!

If* they were overzie then if they replaced with a standard sive valve the seats would be too big no?

Looks more like no.1 has had a bit of a clean up for the photos.

If it had bigger vlaves and was then returned to standard size vlaves, I would have thought the seat insets would have had to be changed as well or the valve would sit too deep in the head.

Looking good Si, the interior looks the dogs now, very swav!!

As for the Engine I thought the bellhousing on my gearbox was a bit oily but yours it caked. For the oil leak at the front of the head, I'm sure I heard some one say that if you just nipped the head bolt at that point a little more that would do it?? Not sure if thats best tho...

Keep up the good work, I've still got his all to do!!lol. :D

Doh! Wasn't paying attention..

If it had oversized valves it would still have them, as you wouldn't be able to re downsized the seats afaik

Well here we go next lot!

Image

Me cleaning off the crusty useless reminants of the sump gasket

Image

Nose bolt off and removing the cover

Image

Mayo left over from when the head cracked years ago 8O Theres still a bit in the sump!

Image

Interesting amount of shit caught by the oil pump filter!

Image

Image

Crank out, my lord they are heavy these TD cranks

Image

in all it's glory

Image

This is the worst on the crank, main end no.2 Now i thought it was a score but a closer look has showed it's actually the coating off the shell and should polish off a treat

Image

No.1 main end cap shell, this is why i got into a flap!

Image

main end no.4 thrust washer one, nothing bad on this

Image

Couple of the big end cap shells. Worn

I've just got back from my dads and these are the measurements

Main ends are all exactly the same @ 59.97mm Standard shell size 60mm. So all is good here

Big ends vary between 44.983mm and 44.978mm, Standard shell size is 45mm

We are off the opinion this won't be needing a regrind and is raring to go still! My old man seems to think i may have caught this at just the right time as it could of got alot worse in the next few 10k or so......

I think we have saved major future dramas, happy bunny then

just been thinking i've got in my back passage a Cat cam 273/273 which is quite pokey with new rockers doing nothing?

Would liven it up a treat i expect?! could possibly throw the fuel and timing settings out a little though

What do we think?

Have you thought about a plug and play MS system simon? Could be good to optimise your fuel and timin, unless you want to stay stock?

thing is you'll never map it to be as good or drivable as motronic or the piggy back route. Thats what bothers me about it all
