I have a set of 14" BBS Cross Spokes and would like to know what paint to use to re-spray them.

Now in the past I have used "Hammerite silver smooth" on a bottle top and it looked fine but it may have needed to have a clear coat on top.

Ideas and comments will be well recieved.

Cheers, Mart.

Use standard wheel silver from your local motor factors, usually about £3 a tin. topped off with some similar priced lacquer. job done :D

As always the key is in the preparation.

Thanks mate, so would my Hammerite smooth silver do the job as you dont have to use a primer but the wheels would be prepared (keyed) and a coat of lacquer added as well.

I have to say all four centre caps are new so I hope the paint wil match.

I doubt Hammerite would match, just a case of trial and error i am afraid. unless you can get the paint code for the BBS colour.

I used some tetrosyl stuff from a motor factors, was cheap stuff, it wont match though as it was a few shades darker than the BBS colour so i ended up spraying the centre caps aswell.

Thanks guys , I may just try the Hammerite as the coverage is superb and you dont need a primmer.
And I will spray the caps as well as it wont take too long.

Sounds a good plan, then at least you know the colour will match :)

I'd guess that lacquer sprayed onto Hammerite wouldn't be a good idea, as they would probably react horribly and go all crinkly.

Not a fan of Hammerite, seem to remember last time i used it you had to reapply other coats within a certain amount of time otherwise you would get a reaction.

OK , keep us all posted on this one as I`m sure I am not the only one who is willing to give it a go but would really like to know the "proper " shades / colours etc.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

It's Polaris. Felgen Silber just translates as wheel silver. It's the same colour.

Just an up-date,

I srayed a test piece today with Hammerite silver smooth and put lacquer on top about 90 mins later.

So far there has been no reaction between the two so if this continues ,then I will be going down this route for the BBS.

The car is being used as my sons wedding car (his request) so time is very short ( 7 February is the day ) and I want it to look the dogs .

( I was going to drive them both , but unfortunately I can barely walk a few yards these days [even though its an auto] but at least I get to see it arrive at Leeds town hall )
