You don't need to modify the loom, just cut the wrap and re-route it so it reaches, then re-wrap it again. You can shorten it if you like but this isn't needed.
The most difficult bit is making the bracket.

Cut what wrap? sorry I can be rather dense when it comes to engines at times. You don't need to modify the loom, just cut the wrap and re-route it so it reaches, then re-wrap it again. You can shorten it if you like but this isn't needed.

Will do, once the car gets it's MOT sorted out it'll be all systems go for tinkering. Just wish I'd documented the M42 swap as it would have benefited a hell of a lot of people.

Well if I am the next to do it then I will!
But here I have a few questions now, its hijacking time. I picked up my m42 from barry (bss325i) today and got a sneaky peak at his 318 project..... lovely
. But anyway. Nows I got the engine I want to know what bits I will need that I wont have?
I dont have a prop, will my m40 one work ok?
My car is currently an m40 with slushbox. So obviously a pedal box. Now the next question is, will the floor/bulkhead have to be holed in order to the linkages for the clutch to go through.

no you wont have to mad the floor . i think you can even use your pedal box and fit the clutch and brake pedals from the manual car , but swappaing the pedal maybe easyer you will then need the clutch master cylinder, pipe work to the slave cylinder , slave cylinder , clutch , flywheel , gearbox , manual prop , interior trim and gear lever .

I have all the box and everything as well, but I assume when you say manual prop I can't use the one I have got?don't worry about it robbo about hijacking mate we are all trying to get the same job done

I would say you would have the hole in the floor rob, as it would have been a lot easier when it came of the production line to do all the same chaises/ floor pans. ???

I have coil on plug on mine. Not really worth the hassle tbh, makes it more of a pain to run a timing light on it (I have a spare lead for that), get the rocker cover off and changing plugs etc, the rubber boots on the coils split easily too, so def pros and cons. needs nyloc nuts on lots of stuff to stop them working loose with vibrations, and the alloy plate i used is bending slightly over time. Also been meaning to use washers to hold the plate on to spread the load a little.
pics (sorry they're a bit rubbish):

Tha is a nice rocker cover and inlet manifold. What air filter are you running? Looks standard other than the extended pipe to the throttle body.

Thanks! Air filter in those pics is just standard (well, k+n panel), and pipework is due to AFM removal (I run megasquirt which is SD - uses a MAP sensor).BigBavarian wrote: Tha is a nice rocker cover and inlet manifold. 325i TB wont work, you can open the iS throttle body up a little and adjust the butterflies so that WOT is a litle more true than it is from standard. Other than that there are'nt any alternatives to the throttle body unless you go down the ITB route.

up date for tonight:
I have just spent the best part of the night trying to put in my iS engine to find that the shaft in the 318i box are not the same, the shaft on the 1.8 is a thinker diameter than the one in the iS box, which is very weird because everyone had told me there the same and even states in the book there the same.
so i have just spent out on a new clutch for the 1/8 box which will now be for sale as i need a iS clutch.

i thought the clutches where the same on m40 an m42s . but i think there are two different size spigot bearings that fit in the crankshaft i think the difference is the hole in the centre of the bearing . that maybe why it wont fit

The shafts in the gear boxs are differant, so it just easyer to use the iS box.
so now just got myself another new clutch for the iS box, yeah the clutch`es are differant because of the shafts in the box`es.
But all sorted now engine will go in monday or tuesday night just waiting on some bolts from BMW for the clutch.
raydon boy`s how is yours coming on i here your almost there, engine in and sprayed isnt it.
