Fitting suspension, question...

Just set out to fit my suspension kit from Hottuning, received the kit yesterday and noticed it did not have the platforms for the springs on the front dampers and assumed you steal them off the old ones. Upon inspection two minutes ago, you cannot.

Probably an amateur question I know, but I searched and could not find an answer, so, how do I sort this minor glitch in this evenings plans?

Are the front suspension upgrades not just inserts?When i did mine all i did was undo the large cup?nut thingy and out came the damper...or are you talking about the top mounts?

They are proper dampers, not inserts. I am missing the platforms that the springs themselves sit on.

Maybe they supplied you with the wrong kit?

I'd be on the blower straight away,asking polite(to start with!)questions...good luck sortin it out

the strut will have the hub attatched or its an insert.

Here's a daft question

IS there a spindle for the front wheel bearing to slide on to???

IF not, then you only have new inserts,which will mean you have to strip down your existing units in order to fit the new ones.

Well this is what I have x2;

The top one is an insert mate..the bottom one is the rear damper..

The top one is the new insert for the front.

You'll need to remove the struts and strip them down to fit the new fronts

You'll need to compress the spring,remove the topmount, spring and the nut which holds the insert inside the srut casing in order to remove the old one's

I scratched my head when i did my first kit cos i thought i was getting whole new suspension legs too...

Please,please compress the spring with spring compressers,DO NOT atempt to remove the top 17mm nut until the spring is compressed enough to turn freely!!

Agreed Daimlerman if you arent sure what you are doing I really recommend getting someone who does to give a hand. Compressing the springs can be dangerous if not done properly think how much force they take!

And make sure the spring compressors are of a decent quality and under no danger of slipping off.
Don't underestimate the energy stored in a compressed spring!!
If it comes loose, it won't just spring along the floor a few feet, it'll ricochet off the floor, the ceiling and every wall in the room, and you don't want to be in the way of it!!

I didn't use a spring compressor the first time i did the job...

I jacked up the leg with a trolley jack whilst jamming my boot against the back wheels of the jack,undid the top bolt,then lowered the jack...It shot back like a rocket and nearly took my flippin' ankle off!!It damaged the thread too..

My dad told me not to do it that way..

Takes a brave man to own up to that kind of stupidity although I did read in PPC recently that one of their contributors removed a pair of front springs in a scrap yard by using a jack under the strut to fully compress the spring,then removing the top nut,then slowly lowering the jack... not something I would do,of course

lowered springs arent as compressed as standard and some of them can be romoved safely without compressors

I trapped all the fingers on my left hand in between a pair of compressed spring compressors years ago when one of them decided to slip
I learnt from that mistake very quickly!!!!
