What engine is this based on, m52 2.8 or an m54 3.0?
If only it was Manual. It seems amazingly good value, despite the no reserve, I bet it will be relisted with more detail.

I assume they were based on M52's, M54's weren't around until 2000. I think the pre-facelift one was a 3.0 and M50 based.

How much do you lot think it will go for in the end?

Its ended at under £3k with NO reserve. Hence I don't think it will have actually sold.
A £2900 tech 2 sport or this and there is no contest in my eyes. I'd be in the semi auto.

Another one for you:
My brother just bought a very smart 330ci (manual) for £5500. How many people would rather that over a mint sport?

Ids go for the 330ci over a sport, Mainly because Ive had a Sport and I like to try lots of different cars....And 330ci's are rapid mixed with abit of luxury.oakey wrote:Fair enough I didnt notice thatJon_Bmw wrote:Its ended at under £3k with NO reserve. As for the E36 Alpina V's E30 Sport....Tough choice but the Alpina might just edge it.

I'd go for the aplipina e36 all day long. 10 times more exclusive than a sport.
Question, I see it has the steptronic steering wheel but what is that auxilary lights module in the lower part of the dash binnicle? Never EVER seen that before in any Alpina or any e36!!

I agree with Dave. Despite all the toys and don't get me wrong I love Alpina's but the E36 just doesn't cut the mustard for me. Now if it was an E30 Alpina, WELL that's a different story....oakey wrote:Sorry but I would go for a mint sport (or alot of other cars) anyday. The looks just don't do it for me.

lovely thing! it's not an auto like normal, as you can change gears manually up and down the box from the steering wheel. Surpisingly good when your on a charge as you can keep both hands on the wheel all the time!
The engine is a modified US M3 bottom end with an alpina fettled M52 head good for 280 odd brake

The E36 Alpina is undoubtly the 'better' car, but when my E36 goes wrong I curse the cost however small, yet I enjoy spending stupid
money on my E30. Could you ever enjoy spending money on an E36??

e36's are cheaper than e30's why is this news? if you are 21 all you care about is speed and you want to change your car every 5 minutes then you won't be in an e30 for long. if you have actually had a few different cars and appreciate what an excellent all rounder the e30 is maybe you will understand why these newer cars are cheaper and why the e30 is attaining classic status.

Is it the constant maintaining, filling in grot with p40, changing blown heads thats appealing? Undoubtable for the money, e30's are great little cars. They drive nice, they handle neutrally and they are generally easy to work on.pnd wrote:e36's are cheaper than e30's why is this news? if you are 21 all you care about is speed and you want to change your car every 5 minutes then you won't be in an e30 for long. if you have actually had a few different cars and appreciate what an excellent all rounder the e30 is maybe you will understand why these newer cars are cheaper and why the e30 is attaining classic status.
There comes a time that something a bit newer becomes appealing to some people. Newer and more exclusive cars do have an benefit IMO. You well know a sub £3k sport is probably a shitter, this Alpina may not be the best in the world, but its 8-10 years newer and 'hopefully' a lot less rusty.

The E36 alpinas, B3 2.8, B3 3.0 and the uk only B2.5 were all available in 5 speed manual and "Switchtronic", an auto with manual shifting capabilties and shift buttons on the steering wheel.BMracing wrote:I don't think they did, i've never seen one anyway. A lot of E36's are just as bad as some E30's. You just have to find a good one (of either) and keep up with the preventative maintainence to keep the rust free and running right.Jon_Bmw wrote:Is it the constant maintaining, filling in grot with p40, changing blown heads thats appealing? The next car on the cards for me is another E46 as i miss the modern daily. An Alpina B3 3.3 is a very likely possibility as these are getting quite cheap now. The only downside is that all RHD UK cars were Switchtronic but this doesn't bother me to much and if anything would more relaxing for everyday use. I MUST BE GETTING OLD lol!

The plus point with this one was it was one of the last of the production line assuming it was registered straight away and wasn't old stock. I agree, the e46 alpinas and even more so perhaps, the late e39s would be a great buy for a car. Potentially a good investment if you got a model that had low Alpina production numbers. b10 v8?

I would expect an Alpina E36 would be looked after better then an M3.

alpina in their terms built the e46 B3 and e39 B10 in pretty big numbers.
Good thing with alpinas is they aren't effected by this new road tx robbery, buy your B5 and pay £195 a year tax!
