ive stumbled acoss some old car pics on a cd when i was vaud mad!!! well i came across this picture
and thought dam that looks just as long and wide like the bmw engine!! plus its from a 1.6 ton carlton or more senator!!! also beeing from the same era may be easier than a newer engine?
basicly is it fittable becasue there reliable tons of tourqe and got a cam chain and kicks out Standard power. 201@6000 and Torque 199@3600 and thats with out cams from the 3.2 and remapped! as they take very nicley to a remap
and they sound amazing,
other pics to see on size etc
in my eyes id pefer the opel dual ram, very effecient on power!!, and the cam chains arnt weak points!! more the plastic water pump which gets replaced by a metal impeller
and they carry very little wiring, beeing just the engine loom and then preety much the ecu etc, and id use a digi dash, i do like the sound of them, sound better then the m50 lump
and the m30 what would be req for full swap, any diffrent props, mounts etc if some one had a run down quickly i think i may join the swap list, cheers
EDIT:
whats the diffrence between non-vanos engine and vanos???
M30 requires mounts, shortened prop, about all I know off the top of my head, it isn't a hard conversion though, and 210-220bhp out the box with a shit load of torque
Vanos is variable cam timing, so with or without.. They make the same power as each other but the Vanos has more mid range
For the m30 swap i can supply the mounts. The prop you can have a custom prop made up the front have from the m30 donor and the rear being e30. There is companys who will be able to do this one being reco prop and the one which i used was major and aspinal up north it only cost 50 quid for it to be welded and balanced. You can apparently also use a e30 m3 prop or e36 328i prop.
m50 engine is better than the m30 thats a big old lump of iron to stick in the engine bay better still do an m52b28 alloy block and around £20kg lighter than a m50 engine
i think if a bit of research is carried out you will find that the timing chain is in fact a weak point for this engine. also if you intend to increase the power by replacing the cams then more strain would be put upon the chain due to the higher lift/longer duration of the cams. if you have already have a 3.0 24v then think about it... but you still require lots of parts, manifold, gearbox, linkage, mountings, prop. i think a more modern bmw 24v would be more suitable. these engines are a good swap into an e30. simple and effective.
you can just use the box you already have in the car, an m50 box requires a change of diff ratio. get a m50 from a 525 and e36 engine mountings ,a modified m52 manifold. if you read the m50 sticky, it tells you what wires connect to the e30 loom. cheers
