is it worth using when mounting the front speakers, my understandaing is that you put it around the speaker holes in the front and mount the speaker to it

has anyone done it??? does it make much difference???

Basically yes but you should also line the enclosure of the speaker as well. its designed to stop the speaker rattling and the enclosure from resonating (creating unwanted noises/harmonics)

Yeah bud it would. It would sound more detailed in the mid/bass, more full in the lower bass and generally alot cleaner and focused throughout the range. For example. if you imagine even on a cheap set of home speakers, how thick the enclosure is for rigidity. Then compare it to the relative tinfoil that makes up the e30 enclosure... You will see where much of the sound quality is lost, moving the enclosure intead of the cone. Dynamat will minimise the effects of that. lol . IIRC if you were to totally dynamat your car (yes i know how expensive it can be) you would gain up to 10db of volume at a given power level

They already have enclosures, just crap tiny ones made of thin metal, dynamting will seal the enclosures up and reduce vibrations/distortion.Im not sure if its the drivers or passengers side or both but one of them has the wiring loom running through it which i sealed with silicone sealant or similar. basically you need to make the enclosures as airtight as possible with dynamat lining the inner surfaces

Mainly inside, on all the sufaces you can get to inside the enclosures. You may gain a small improvement by putting a layer of 'mat' between the speaker and its mounting, but i doubt you would notice it really I take it this for the IS? If so the rear speakers are known as 'free air' speakers meaning they have no real enclosure but use the bootspace instead. The only benefit from 'd-mat' would be to do the whole metal parcel shelf surface under the trim/cover thing HTH

do you know its take 2 times the power to gain 3db , it will take over 3 times of power to get a 10db gain. matting can give a gain up to 3db's. no were near 10db. , if 10db gain only costs £60 (wholesale) then i can can just put loads of layers down and get a big gain, which is not true.
