who is getting hocky pucks for the gearbox then????

sounds like the plan if you lower the engine.

im happy where my m30 lump is (as i dont have much choice with the big lump) but i will have a good look at the alignment and see if the gear box mounts need lowering from your advice. those centre bearing arnt cheap.

well, I spend the day yesterday on the milling machine to fabricate some ice hockey gear box mounts.
To cut a long story short, I will take the off the car ASAP! The noise is just unbearable!!!

I've not been on the zone for a week or so Oze, so sorry f you've had no word from me.

Raising the engine and box would be all well and good, but the prop has no knuckle between the gearbox and the center bearing, If it did we could put the engine where we want.

Machining the pucks isn't a big deal anyway, just have to get the compressed height of the OE mounts and a few minutes on the lathe will have them done :)

I could see why the pucks on the gearbox would give so much vibration alright when the box is bolted on to the body right beside your feet, lol.

That's a shame, forgot that the touring is off the road - would have been good to see what time it was capable of down the strip.

I'll just get a puck or two from a sports shop I think, not worth the hassle of taking a detour to be honest. If you do come, bring a couple along please.

If using the pucks on a road car will be a good idea to strengthen the sub frame mounting points. ( Usually prone to cracking ). The engine is more solidly mounted so the subframe takes more of a hamering. The pucks will also improve your car`s handling as you don`t have the heavy lump moving around as it use to.

Uwe has a kit for this, and is well worth doing. Just remember not to overtighten the centre bolt or heavy vibration will result. I have used mine for some 5 years now on an E30 m3 which been heavily tracked and have only suffered one rubber coupling failure and that was down to the gearbox output flange breaking.

It is a practicle, cheap worthwhile mod, and if you don`t like it you simply bolt in something else.

I would think this would also be a good mod for a drift car.

Have fun,

Colin do you still have any of these? Couldn't get some from my local shop in the end.

I need two, can you post them to me?

Cheers,

4 pucks 6 quid
6 pucks 9 quid
12 pucks 12 quid

Is this just for the pucks or the pucks and washers?

There is one or two more people thinking about getting them over here now so as soon as I have them all definite I'll tell them to get in touch about paying you and we'll send them all over together.

I'm getting my own lathe in a few days so they will give me something to do on it winkeye

I work at a hardware store (going to college in America) and one thing you could try is to "tap" the pucks. A tap basically threads a hole to put a bolt in. After that you could use some neoprene washers and "thread lock" to keep it tight and silent.

Not sure if tapping it would be a good idea I wouldn't have thought the rubber would be strong enough.
