Then I noticed it had a petrol dash in it, rev counter etc.
I checked with bmw customer service and they had last seen it in 1999 with 196k on it!!!!!!! and i bought it in 2003 with 183K???
Obviously been clocked but then i did another 43k in it over a year and half going backwards and forwards to france only doin basic service stuff. and it just got better and better.
Must have had 350/400,000 plus on the clock when i sold it in 2004 and its still in taunton
The trim will fall off,the windows will stop working, the wipers will stick but those engines are bullet proof mate!! Yes, I'm talking shite as usual
Good old Aldridge Prior! More fairy tales no doubt!
Seriously; First off - the Touring is only available as a TDS and the better SE only from earlyb 1998 R plate. The Saloon TD was 115 bhp non intercooled with a GM four speed auto (basically a 318i box) or 5 speed manual. They're okay plodders. The 318tds is ghastly, just don't even go there.
The 325tds is best as an auto. The gearing is very long (38mph/1000 in top) so will se very economical on long runs. The M51 diesel works a lot better in the E36 than it does in the E34. Problems arte the diesel pump timer unit leading to an uneven idle (new pump, ££££), poor cold start (glow plugs and/or fuel return line one way valve), overheating (shagged in general).
There are still a few nice ones out there - you'll need a couple of grand though.
