Phone your local bmw dealer with the number plate and ask them about the details of the car - ie model and spec. I guessed the last letter as being a "G"

Thats a genuine M535i. Basicaly an M5 but without the 24valve lump. Mtec suspnsion / bodykit / steering wheel (tech1) etc. etc. Sports seats, many had leather. Available auto (switchable) or manual (some had dog leg box). All came with OBC, Electric roof and electric windows all round. Should be sat on bespoke M535 Metric

alloys.
Not many about now that ain't rotton. Theres a particularly nice Agate Green one owned by a nice gent on the zone. Gets up the ace.
I used to look after one of these and many are now nothing short of dogs. However. Get a goodun and they are a blinding car.

Im not that much older than you dude ! Id never pay over a cars value on my insurance though.
Your 'is' should be fairly cheap to insure cue to it being a modern classic, I was paying about 400 quid on a 325i sport which was over 100 quid less than what I was paying on the MK4 golf tdi Ive just sold.

BE carefull here, dont be mistaken by the attractive looks. These cars handle like a barge compared to an E30. they were a widowmaker in their day. Good grip all the way until it breaks loose and then there is no containing the pendulum effect even if you opposite lock the 3.5 turns required!!

You Pussy

They are a mans car! Just get in a drive the damn thing and drive it hard.
They were actually one of the best handling saloons in there day. They are no more "dangerous" to a 325 e30. They just weigh a bit more. The suspension set up was so good that the design was was carried over to the e34 which many say was the best car BMW ever made. With everything in good order they actually handle well.
Try a 1985 2.8 carpri or a Sierra xr4i. Or even a Rover SD1 vitesse? Then you'll know what wayward handling is. The e28 blew them all away in those stakes.

golden rule is to check everywhere for rust..... walk away then come back later and check again...
brilliant car all round if you get a good one

It's not really an M5 without the 24 valve engine. It's really just a dressed up 535i. It doesn't have the brakes, the suspension, the overdrive gearbox or modified steering box of the M5.
Nice car though.

What a load of rubbish. These are light and nimble - perhaps not E30 light and nimble, but great cars to drive.

The bus like standard E30 steering rack is equally hideous, hence why the E36/Z3 rack is a popular upgrade.
I agree that they can be a handful (especially in the wet). The E34 535i is a lot more composed.

According to spec is is a 535i automatic with front and rear spoilers and sport seats as factory options.
IT IS NOT A M535i or M5.
hope this helps

Nice M30 doner for an E30...
Looks lovely, take it for a road test and see what you think before you buy. I had a 528i one of these, and that was a quick car. A 3.5 will be wonderful.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring

Is that confirmed with the BMW database? If it's not an M535 then its a good copy. i did think the chrome window surrounds were a give away but IIRC decrome surrounds didn't come in till about '87.

Nice car though.
Agreed to a point but I was always led to believe it had the M5 suspension. It certainly had mTech suspension.
Also wasn't the e12 M535i the first ever mass production M car?
