I was on a dual carriageway and cruising at about 70ish, I put my foot down to overtake. The gearbox "kicked down" to what i assume was second gear as the engine hit the rev limiter. I backed off the pedal and it changed up OK.
I tried this a few times with the same result
Is this normal ?
The gearbox has no problems as far as I can tell, it changes very smooth etc.
It's a standard auto, not sport.
Any advice welcomed.
Thanks
Kevin

My dads old 525i e34 had an auto box
there was 2 stages to the kickdown...
1st stage got it to change up at 4kish
2nd stage got it to shift at the redline.
did yours bounce off the limiter, or shift just before hitting the redline?

Thanks
I'll change the oil and filter as a precaution, any idea of quantity and recommended oil ?
It hit the rev limiter as soon as it "kicked down" which was the worrying bit. 2nd gear at 70 !
Thanks
