running a bit hot sometimes after le mans!

easy to jump to the conclusion that too many miles chasing 911s at max revs in top has done something nasty to the cylinderhead (i wouldn't blame the poor thing, and it was worth it!!)

however the water pump and thermostat obviously might be bad.

i put the 'stat in a pan and boiled it, it opens about 5-7mm. i searched on another board and read it's supposed to open at 85 degrees and should open about an inch.

is mine ok or should it be opening much further? the pan was properly boiling, and i could easily pull the thermostat much further open than it got in the pan

never had one off or had a problem with one before, so i have no idea :roll:

If in doubt, replace it, not sure how much it should open, but if it's able to open much further than what it does in boiling water, then I would say there's something up, are they as expensive as the M3 thermostat at Ԛ£65??

put it this way,

one inch=2.54cm

2.54cm=25.4mm

so opening 5-7mm aint good!

i'd replace it-should be cheap enough from GSF :cool:

hmm put a new stat in today and it's running a fraction cooler than it used to all the time (and not ever going above the middle any more, thank fuk)

the new one only opened a few mm further than the old one in the pan of water, but much quicker, think the old one was fooked...

went out to celebrate it not being blown up after all, managed to get a 'chirrup' from the tyres changing into 4th gear :rasta:
