Each door pod is aligned to the edge of the door (at the closing end).

You got to admit it doesnt look right? It cant be a 4 door type pod as its too long, so does this mean the coupe and cabbys have different door pods..?

Is this a genuine kit or fibreglass kit?

Coupe and cab doors are the same length as far as i'm aware so they should be straight swap between the 2.

That pic looks very wrong

Hi Guys, Back again... Had to take it out of storage and its raining... :( please see pics!

Take a look at the pics, it seems to be aligned correctly from the rear edge of the door but towards the front arch it seems to have run short...How can these be possible! All pod parts are original m-tec 2 and not the fibreglass type. With all original bmw clips.

No drillings were carried out as the pods clipped staraight into original pre set trip positions.

Please help anyone.... :( :(

Hey Shakeel, I thought the same that the coupe and cabbys were more or less the same type of door pods, but again it does'nt look right and its driving me crazy!!! :x

I really need to sort this out, but do it just buy another set of door pods, what if these too are the same - then it would just be a waste of money.. :(

need some serious cosmetic help here

Hi the door pods are fitted like that so they do not catch the wing when you open the door.
They don't make bm's like this anymore!..They should.

tripper, there should be a gap between the front ones, as tonyb has mentioned, but shouldnt be big gap, compare it to other convertible pictures and see if your gap is more than theirs...

The shut line at the rear is too small, you just need to shuffle them around a bit to close the gap, the front arch piece needs to come back a bit as well.
There is NO nucleus.

Cheers Badboy & Spadge, I'll measure the length of my door pods too and compare our both dimensions let you guys know tomorrow.

But the gap on mine seem too large and very odd looking. :(

Yeah they cut right through the doors of both donor vehicles but not at equal lengths inanvertantly making the doors longer than they should be. Was an absolute PITA to find window glass too. :D

Just ask a cabby owner and a convert owner to measure up the doors!

Hi, just measured my door pod length on my cabby and its coming up at 118cm!!

Is there anyone out there how could measure their m-tec 2 door pods lengths and let me know how short mine are coming up? :(

Just spoke to Stuart at BMW Cotswould supliers as Paul is on holiday, and he seems to think that I may have pre 1990 m-tec 2 door pods. :? After 1990 - 93 they released phase 2 door mouldings, does this sound right to anyone? :(

Mine is also originally chromebumber model.

Only difference is the rear valance and rear lights. You can't fit facelift bumper without big modifications to the bumber or to the body.
I changed the rear valance / panel and the bits around rear lights.

hey there,
how did you get the bottom skirts to fit? i have a genuine saloon kit ready to put on my cab, but the sills are deeper on the cab compared to the saloon.
ive been told by some one to glue them on, as the clips are no good for cab.

cheers

Hey Paul,

My bodyshop man had a real problem fitting these on and in the end had to glue these and screw these on. You may notice that along the car underneath the skirts are hanging quite low and I may cut these off? :?

Hope this helps you.

Is there anyone who has a 92-93 cabby with a factory fitted m-tec2 kit, who could measure the length of their door mouldings and give the length? :( Please guys!!! help a fellow zoner out :) I cant stand my pride and joy looking incorrect (i'm sure you agree!)

I'd then like to go on to purchase the correct door mouldings.... :?

As Jonsku said, the Tech II kit does leave a bit of the door uncovered (allows you to open your door without smashing the door pods) It's not the prettiest thing, I agree, but it's like that.

Your door pods are aligned too far back (and posibly your wing pods too far forwards, although they should slide into the skirts and butt against the arch lip, IIRC) leaving a bigger gap than intended by BMW.
There is some adjustment possible in the clips going into the doors (they mount into the pod on some sort of "slider")
Get the bottom clips off and give it a gentle tap from the back to align them as required. Put your bottom clips back on and your problem's fixed!

Cabrio has different side sills than hardtops. You can make the hardtop sills to fit but they won't be pretty or look correct.

There are some cabrio side sills for sale on ebay time to time (~5 times a year maybe). Good luck searching.

HI, i dont have a genuine cabby mtec, but as i said earlier, i have genuine mtec 2 kit ready to go on. My cab is a 91, late H reg, face lift model..

I have just measured the top edge of the door pod, it is 1187mm, and also just measured
the door at roughly where the top of pod goes, it measures just 1195mm so not much longer than the pod.
I had this kit fitted on my saloon, I remember the gap was aprox 3 mm each end of the pod on that one, when it was centralised on the door nothing like what you seem to have in your pictures..
so as long as your cabby is the face lift model, it should fit, but if you have chrome bumper (non face lift model), that would cause you your problems..
hope this helps.

Paul

Doors are the same in prefacelift and facelift cabrios so it doesn't matter which one you have..

All he needs to do is to realign the panels..
