Hi Guys,

I'm thinking about colour coding the black bumpers and mirrors to match the body work...How easy is this process? I was told by a colleague that it is a simple matter of rubbing down the plastic, using a plastic primer and then painting. I wanted to double check with you guys in case I spoil my baby 8O

Cheers.

BSingh.

Well I did a very QUICK job this weekend (this are my bodge mirrors got new pair in the shed)

Car currently with the black mirrors (yes thats my dads 525D to the left)
Image
I used light grade sandpaper to roughten the surface (dont forget to wash etc to remove grease etc)
Image
I then masked off all areas I did not want to spray
Image
First coat of Grey primer (build up a few coats or untill you have even coverage) dont forget to wet and dry this is the surface the paint is going to go on
Image
I then sprayed with my cars colour paint (Zinnoberrot) build up a few coats again using wet and dry 1500grit inbetween coats
Image
I will be using clear lacqure for the real job but for this quicky I didnt

Heres the mirror with the masking removed

And the car viewed from the front see the colour coded mirrors?

This is only a rough guide im sure others will have views and ideas (as you can tell I love taking pictures of everything I do, it always comes in use

To be hounest the paint job i did on my final mirrors really does look imaculate, but if you want it done pro it depends really you get what you pay for. I would expect anything from £30-60 each depending on type of paint, how much u want sprayed and more importantly the quaility.

Cost be £15 to do my mirrors, paint, sandpaper, lacquer etc etc

for the bumpers i would guess it would be easier to get a set of colour coded bumpers then you only need to rub down prime and paint (or just fit them if they are already the right colour!)
