Bud---get?

Oh you mean blank cheque :)

Really wanna do mine in stainless so that I don't have to do it again. 3mm wall thickness?! Blimey, that really won't break!

You running single or twin pipes the length of the car?

Can't for the life of me imagine why they ran two the full length of the car, but I'm gonna copy it anyway :)

Lo all :)
I've just bought a 325i se (my first beemer) which will eventually get mega-squirted.
We've already built a mega-squirt system for our (don't laugh) Maestro efi and it ROCKS
Good luck with it, it's sooo worth it!

Why would you want to get rid of the intake? You'll lose loads of bottom end torque, and I mean loads.

People lose power on S38's simply be removing the airfilter......roughly 10 bhp.

That intake system is very well designed, they didnt even change it on the 3.8's.

Your putting in a 300bhp engine, isnt that enough? M5's are also very well mapped therefore you'd need to go through the whole process of mapping it etc.

You change anything to the intake system on that engine and youll lose power.

Information above is from people tuning their M5's and being very upset.

So.......

Megasquirt installed stalled for a week, the issue was the supplied coolant temp senor is massive, and has a very odd thread, its an NPT type tapered fitting, I have tried to source the req tap to no avail.

the soloution was simple though( dunno why I waited ) I turned it down and lost the taper, then rethreaded it as M16x1.5, hole tapped job done, 4 wires to connect , then its alive !

Hopefully 8)

Pardon my ignorance chaps but is that the MS2 ?
All we got with our MS setup was the silver box bit, we had to make everything else up ourselves.
Took us 4 days to get a note out of the engine coz no-ones put one on a Maestro. :banghead:
Did u get all the settings for pulse width, etc with the install, or u have to figure it out yourself?
I don't know if him could stand another beard-scratcher like that

We have just MS, we purchased ours ready made, the MS itself has been boxed, the relay board was loose, needed a plastic box making up and the loom was complete. We also have a base map installed on the MS so we can get going straight away, although we will be de-tuning the settings as the map is for silly power, a bit rich for us to start with really.
Mind you, it wasn't cheap, well compared to buying it in kit form, but we have the added reassurance that it's made correctly, works and should be a plug and play exercise, minus some WB tuning upon install.
Having read how others have struggled to get MS up and working properly, I didn't mind paying for some one who knew what they were doing to make it up and test before hand.
Can pass on details if needed...drop us a PM,
Cheers,
Mark.

Off topic sorry but re the post about s38 engines. why do you lose low end torque by changing the intake? and what are the general issues that apply to all engines in terms of intake/metering/torque?

sorry for the off topic :)

may lose a minimal amount of torque on the s38 somehwere cos it has a special intake resonance actuated flap in the plenum... which creates some kinf of passive supercharging effect

something like this?

so I guess crap, better best - afm, mass, restrictionless respectivly is still true for non resonance flap engines. that what I was wondering really.

cheers :)

Minimal amount of torque??.........My resonance flap stopped working and I can tell you I felt it big time. I got worried there was something wrong with my engine and then found what the problem was and fixed the flap.

Just to BTT this and get it back on topic.

After a long time wiring and testing all was well , before throwing the switch on the new ECU I became concerned that I had no comms from the PC to the ECU, So I took it apart to verify it was as its maker intended after its long trip accross the atlantic, all was not well.

It seems my MSnS ECU has a board fault causing the 5V to bleed to earth, its a manufacturing defect and will be covered by the supplier so apart from a shaort dealy, which I am well used on this project all should be well sometime next week

All the sensors are fitted, TPS modded to suit the D drive on the E30, now sporting M30 injectors too, once shes back in my hand the AFM is fianlly gonna be drop kicked into the skip and I'll be enjoying my all new E30 induction noise

Turbo hardware is all fabricated and ready to bolt up too now, kinda handy not using the car for a week, I got a lot done with a few late nights.

Will post up some pix of the story so-far if I ever remeber to take some

Email recieved today, the MSnS is alive and well in sunny(?) Hampshire, the board protection relay had shorted and took a track or two with it, all repaired and being run on the bench over the next few days to make sure its 100%

Ant,

Any luck with the comms issue?

I had a weekend of weddings and feeling ill again, not much done at all.

Hopefully I'll get better soon and have some energy to do stuff.

Glad it's sorted tho :D

Get it back from Bill on Tuesday Mark, will know more then M8

yours has no comms feedback with no power, feedback with power, so I stand by what said before its a comms issue your end M8, the MS appears to be 100%

its gotta be a config issue.

Shoot her back to me if youy want m8 and I'll test on the stim for ya? unless you can wait a few days then I'll have hopefully finished with it and you can play @ your leisure M8

the choice is yours.......................

Well hopefully your's will come back fixed and we can see what the 'issue' is with mine.
I did the 'boot' sequence with mine that night so I guess now I have to reburn the map onto it. I'll wait and see how you get on with yours as you have the stim, then if we can't figure it out between us I'll send it your way.....Hopefully it'll be something we can do when I get there so I'll just bring it with me....hopefully :D

Basemap installed tonight, really need some bigger injectors but they'll have to wait, will run @4.2 bar fuel pressure for now, bit close to the threshold for big boost so 5.5 ish will suffice until my wallets recovered

Mark will MSN you the revised map when you pop up later dude

req fuel is 13 8O

What type of o2 sensors are you using to map the engine?
I need to replace some sections of my exhaust just back from the tubular manifolds. I have a twin pipe system (silencer sharing) so would want to weld some bosses onto the new pipes prior to getting an MS setup.

Any std 02 sensor will suffice, maybe you could invest in one wideband and use the exicting 02 sensor, then switch between the tow for tuning, Wideband and controller is sub Ԛ£100 now and wil interface directly with the MsnS

These WB O2 sensors and controllers, where can I get one!?

Does the controllor bit give a readout which can be tuned to? Might go in with my Pug driving mate and buy one as they sound like a handy piece of kit!

Well today was THAT day................

Airflow meter finally comitted to the bin , WOHOOO !

Cant tell you what a relief it was to finally hear her roar into life without the hateful device.

All the live data to laptop is sorted and working, I am a little lean @ idle but will sort once the remaining charge pipes are made, I think I'm possibly pulling too much air @ the moment, I can alter the map to suit but thats a wasted effort for the time being, its running and thats good enough.

Throttle response is awesome, so much crisper without the flap spoiling the party, makes a lovely noise too
