Hi, i am new to the forum as i've been an e36 guy in the past, the time has come to move onto an e30 and thought i'd keep a running log of the progress!
My e36 Kumho race car ended badly in the wall whilst qualifying at Silverstone last September

Could you not have just bought a 325 se to strip for the track, rather than destroying a rare and sought after model?

Hi mate, i remember chatting to you the morning of 'the race'! I am trying to stay away from racing this year as i'm in my final year of uni and as you'll know when you're involved it's the only thing you think about! The car should be lapping by May assuming i have the time to do the work.

In answer to tristan, i understand what you mean but i got the car for a really really good price and have been driving it on the road for a bit as a sport and the time has come to make the car everything it has always wanted to be!

Isn't it just! I guess you don't take chances with your second cage :)

Finally got the coilovers fitted along with a new cam belt.

Image

Next step was to use my groovy new tool to get the windows back in and try and sort out the engine mount issue!

Image

Image

Replaced the engine mount easy enough but i now have a problem.....

There must be a 'best way' of sorting the sun roor issue. Could someone please advise me on the best way to fill the hole in the roof!????

Next step, sun roof (i hope) painting inside and seat fitting! (may have to wait till my finals are finished at uni!)

looks great, wish i could afford a cage like that in mine.

for the sunroof there are a few options but the one that i like the sound of best is the way uwe and ed325 have done it. take the sunroof panel apart and tack weld the outer skin to the roof, then fill the seam with sikaflex. i reckon this is what im doing with mine too.

Ok, i had a go at the sun roof today and it started badly.... i did my best and to be honest i think i saved it in the end.

I followed uwe's idea of using the original skin and bending it out to bridge the gap.

Image

The bending was the problem, but i took a large piece of metal under the jagged bits and beat the sh1t out of it which made it a little smoother.
Image

Even got the girlfriend to get stuck in!!

Wasnt sure to put the skin over or under the roof but decided to do whichever was easiest as if it looks really bad, i could always re-skin the roof if at any point in my life i have time and or money!

Image

Image

Next stop, sort out the disks pads and hoses! I'd be interested to know what people think!

Can't believe the rigid lines are NLA from BMW. even so, might as well make your own up?
