Ok if i can get 20 purchases on these, then the price is going to be £37.50.

This will cover postage & paypal . The guibo's will be made out of 6082 grade aluminium so they should be plenty strong enough and fairly light.

There should be a prototype run this weekend.

If i include Yanninya, then i have 14 confirmed (15 with one unconfirmed) purchases, so i only need a couple more. Theo has been taken off as his will be a seperate, more expensive purchase for the prototype run.

Update you when i know more!

5.12. WHEELS / STEERING:

As per MSA regulations [C(b)]14 and the following;

i) The steering system including rack, tie rods and steering arms shall remain as standard.

Those regs sound like its only things that effect the steering angle available not how it feels?

If you wanted I guess you could cut and stick the alloy one in the center of a rubber one or leave the head shield on so it appears as standard

bugger bugger bugger

That's a real issue with my steering at the moment. Had a complete overhaul, refurbished manual rack, new tie rods, new steering column springs and circlip, brand new rubber guibo, and the play is still in the guibo rubber. Its minimal, but as the rest of the car doesn't have a single bit of play or knocking etc etc it stands out to me like a sore thumb. Pants :(

Sorry guys, have to take myself of the list now.....

There should be a prototype run this weekend.
If i include Yanninya, then i have 14 confirmed (15 with one unconfirmed) purchases, so i only need a couple more. Theo has been taken off as his will be a seperate, more expensive purchase for the prototype run.

That is fine for me, as I said before.
Have you think about the same guibo but for E36 rack conversion? Shoud be a feew buyers as well. Just my thought.

Great idea but the problem is i have nothing to model a prototype around unless anyone has anything to offer? I have access to a few spare steering alloy arms and and old guibo to help me proportion measurements but have no such parts with regards to an e36. Its something i will definately look into when i get this buy done!

Thaks Yan

PS small update to everyone, the drawing has been cleared and the prototype should be tryed out within a week

If you fit the rack in the front mounting holes then yeah, it's spot on. If you use the rear mounting holes on the subframe the e30 uj/coupling is too long and you need to make an e30/e36 hybrid jobby.

Aaron, i have an z3 rack on mine and it fits fine. Mine is mounted on the front holes. The holes themselves are actually used for NON pas racks on manual cars, so are there from the factory and are perfectly strong enough. My rack has been on ages and there is still no stress/shear marks and it is regularly checked. T

The car is slightly more bump steery, alas this can apparently be sorted using some spacers in a witty position although i am still to try this myself. So yes, the spacer will work fine with z3 racks as long as the front mounting holes are used.

isn't the rubber part a break away point for the steering column during a frontal impact? I'm a bit afraid of that thing becoming a painful spear aimed right at my sternum!

also what are your thoughts on this in combination with manual steering?

No, it's not. It is only there to absorb vibrations from the steering.
WMWNWMN wrote:also what are your thoughts on this in combination with manual steering?
The improvement will be the same as in steering with PS.
