what is the piston to valve clearence on a standard m42 engine
IE . . . At tdc how far can you push the valves down before piston contact .

tim s is building the engine / head for me and he is not sure what the wildet cam i can get away with is guys , i spoke to piper cams and basically there are idiots they dont have a clue what an m42 engine is let alone make cams for it they tried to sell me a 295 cam for an m40
so called cat cams very helpfull indeed i am going to be uprating the valve springs and want to know basically what the most agressive / wildest cam i can get away with before i have to poket pistons , or chage to mechanical lifters

Are you going for higher compression pistons? If ou are changing them, you could get them more pocketed to compensate for any higher lift/duration cam. Also, with higher CR the cam will work better.

no not toucing the bottom end yet the plan is to do this to get me threw
then me and tim hopefully will bench build a screamer of a n/a m42 over time !!!
so just the best cam i can get away with for now just changing the springs and running the itb's should see an ok (ish) gain ?

you had a look on the catcams website ? its got loads of info about what u need to change with each of there cams not sure if its got clearances tho got every thing else

hmm really i have spoken to cat cams but not acctually been on their web site , the guy at cat camsasked me what the clearence was so he could decide what the best cam was lool
