On offer are the following BMW Motronic ECU EPROM upgrade chips - for a bargain £40 posted within the UK!
320i/520i Chips for M20B20 with 172/381 ECU code:
1. M20B20 Mild; 7-10bhp gain. Improved mpg and low/mid-range torque, eliminates flat spots to perk up the throttle response, 6900rpm rev limit.
2. M20B20 Wild; 8-13bhp gain, to liven up the venerable M20B20, 6500rpm rev limit.
325i/525i Chips for M20B25 with 073/173/380 ECU code:
3. For early chrome bumper 325i/Tech 1 Sport with 073 ECU, 8-10bhp gain, 6500rpm rev limit.
For later 1988-on Motronic 1.3 cars:
4. EcoTorq M20B25 Mild; 7-11bhp gain, significantly enhances the torque for driveability/improved fuel economy (expect at least an extra 2-3mpg average) and eliminates flat spots, also a 6900rpm rev limit. An ideal blend for daily motoring, also works well with automatics.
5. M20B25 Wild; 8-15bhp gain on standard engine, up to 192bhp if combined with 268/268 cam, big-bore throttle body and six-branch as per Alpina C2 2.5 spec, 6500rpm rev limit. Best suited for fast road/track day use.
6. M20B27; A chip specifically designed for 2.7-litre versions of the M20 engine, based on the eta bottom end with 325i head. Alternatively, I can supply one as used in the Alpina B3/C2 2.7, which gave 207bhp, 197lbft and a 6500rpm rev limit.
24-valve M50B25 non-VANOS with 405 ECU code:
7. M50B25 non-VANOS; 10-15bhp gain, enhances torque and fuel economy, with 7000rpm rev limit.
335i/535i/635i/735i chips for M30B35 with 179 ECU code:
8. M30B35 Wild; 10-20bhp increase, greatly enhanced low/mid-range torque, improved mpg, 7000rpm rev limit.
Also, I can supply stock chips for the pre-facelift and facelift 325i, and stock M30B35, for those wishing to revert to standard.
The chips are industry-standard 28-pin EPROMs, supplied in anti-static packaging with full fitting instructions. Fitting is easy Plug & Play DIY, with no soldering required - please see the Zone guide https://www.e30zone.net/e30wiki/index.p ... ting_Guide
These cars are great to chip; the difference in the feel of the car is superb from idle through to maximum rpm, with crisper throttle response.
ECU code is easily checked by removing the trim panel below the steering column and looking at the label on the silver Motronic ECU box which will be 0 261 200 XXX.
Price is just £40 posted within the UK, money back if not satisfied. Please PM if interested. Note, these are not Zone chips but are sourced alternatively.

Yes - took a while to arrive thanks to Kung Flu.
But works nicely.
I need my injectors professionally cleaned, so I can't claim what a full 7-10 bhp gain feels like.

As you may know, the 318is is notoriously difficult to chip, due to there being three different firmware versions; if you fit the wrong one, the car either won't start or will idle badly. To check, you need to open up the ECU, and look at the silver label on the EPROM chip which should have a serial number, e.g., 1 267 356 378. I am able to supply one if you have the correct number...

Is there also a chip available for the Super Eta? The later version 2.7 that came from the factory with the 885 head running Motronic 1.1 at 129hp
It's bone stock.
Thanks

Alas, no specific chip available for this model.
I would think you're probably better off converting your car to Motronic 1.3, which would give you a better choice of chips:

Never tried that. Would it work just swapping one? A 325i Motronic 1.3 on a 2.7 Motronic 1.1? Would it still be driveable with the engine running right? The inlet, throttle body, injectors, AMF, FPR, etc are all different to the 325i 1.3.Speedtouch wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:39 amAlas, no specific chip available for this model.

It might give a surprising result tho! Thanks anyway.

Yes, I gather several Zoners have done this conversion on various models, probably including the 325e. Try a search...

Just installed the mild ECU upgrade for my 325i. Let it idle for 10 minutes and then took it for a drive. The car feels more responsive and the engine feels smoother. Great work!
P.S. After the ECU change when I put the car into ignition (not start) there’s sound of a small motor opening somewhere which I hadn’t noticed before. Need to investigate.

The motorized sound was from the head unit. I disconnected the battery before removing the ECU and re-connecting it back reset the HU.
