Rob, it was a light front ender on this one, everything else was working fine, engines fine too, had it running before we started to strip it

Not sure why people are so obsessed with an M30's weight, paired with their respective boxes the S50 actually weighs more than the M30. Tested on scales by my buddy.

If the box is what makes it heavier, then surely that weight is distributed further back?
I bet an M30 turbo would be fantastic

Both fully dressed yeah, the only thing I'm unsure of at the mo is whether it was a euro-spec S50 or a US-spec S50, will give him a buzz to ask.
I'd love to have the opportunity to weigh the same shell fitted with both motors on a 4 point scale, to check the distribution etc.
My point isn't to prove that the S50 is heavy though, it's to prove that the old anchor jokes are very much clutching at straws, and a bit tedious, considering a CF bonnet and lighter front alloys soon counteracts the weight difference even between an M52 and an M30.
M30 was weighed with a g260, S50 with the S5D320Z I believe.
M30/g260 was 540lbs. M20B27/g260 came up at 497lbs. I can't remember what the S50 came up at but it was 550lbs+ IIRC.
Just a quick google brings up the following, too:
---------
Taken from here: http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/enumber.html (assuming these are just blocks and heads)
M10 = 82kg = 184 lbs
M42 = 100kg = 220 lbs
S14 = 106kg = 233 lbs
M20 = 117kg = 257 lbs
M30 = 143kg = 315 lbs
M50 = 140kg = 308 lbs
S50 = 152kg = 334 lbs
---------
Here's weight list from http://www.e30.de I assume that all the ancillaries are included in these weights.
M40B16 - 132kg
M20B27 - 175kg
M52B28 - 170kg
M50B25 - 198kg
M60B40 - 210kg
M30B35 - 212kg
M102 - 225kg
S38B36 - 232kg
M70B50 - 250kg

Yeah sure it would, great big fook off cast ally inlet propping the bonnet up and cast iron exhaust manifolds, vs plastic inlet and stainless tubular exhaust manisretroboyo wrote:The M30 would have a lower centre of gravity than a modern 4 valver too, as it's head would be lighter. With the ZR-1 they stuck with 2 valves for this very reason and it broke the Ring's production car record.

and stainless tubular exhaust manis are available for the m30
That is not an inlet manifold BTW...
May I repeat a previous statement, 'you are clutching at straws'

Economy isn't all it's made out to be with this 4 pot
These are the first, wishbones and the front 51mm struts are at the powdercoaters, rear beam will be next, subframe and front subframe, and also new front and rear wheel bearings
I totalled it up today, not cheap.
