Checked the 320 over today for service etc and found the NSF factory pad missing. No big deal so far -

but it has left a huge hole behind it caused by the dreaded tin worm.

Charged the battery, washed it, put it in the other side of the garage. Made a massive to-do list.

Replaced in tank fuel pump. Happy that old one was clearly fooooked as the new one is virtually silent in comparison and starting is improved too.

Removed the glovebox trim in order to tidy up the stereo wiring so the stereo now sits flush with the dash rather than about 5mm out and loose like it has been for as long as I can remember - it's been bugging me for ages :D

Not just a matter of aesthetics - I've come across wiring that has been cut into and short circuits caused by wiring not dressed properly behind the stereo, and crushed between the metal corners of it and the bracket behind.

Yes,those two scruffy 10mm(?) bolts will release the FPR and it's bracket.

FPR will most likely clean up with a bit of elbow grease.

Be aware that you will spill petrol when playing with the FPR!

Ok thanks il have a fiddle tomorrow , does the bracket I presume then remove from the fpr ? Can I leave it connected and then remove the bracket to clean up and not spill fuel ?

Been doing a lot of bay bits, il post a thread once finished, picking up a newly painted rocker and inlet tomorrow

Bled brakes ..... Doodle with gunsond ezzibleed

Knocked off the surface rust on the discs

Gave it a wash

Moved to new garage near my house, first time it turned a wheel for a year or so.

Just rustproof the front end to do..... And then the back end repairs ...

Painted the front grilles and popped on another kidney grille and de-yellowed the lights.
Looks lovely.
It will look even better when the paint ( Diamond Swaaaaaaaaaaarthhzzz) has all the winter crap taken away.

Drove it to work and back yesterday. Found that the fuel pump I fitted a few weeks ago has made a nice difference to how it starts.

Unfortunately the speedo stopped working as the wire to the sender has broken again - I think the wire has gone brittle as when I tried to strip it back and join it the core was not shiny as you would expect but heavily tarnished.

Think I need to chase it back to where it's good wire and then put a new section in.

You are quite correct. The wire has become brittle as a result of vibration from the diff., and the only way to restore it is to heat it up until it glows red, then let it slowly cool - a bit impractical, since the wire is covered in PVC insulation.
If it can't be restored, then it needs to be replaced, at least back to where it hasn't been subjected to vibration, which means at least 300mm. A suitable length of wire, complete with the correct plug, can be found on the headlamps of facelift E30s.

Already got the plug and probably more than 30cm of wire on it thanks to danthe just not got round to doing it yet.

In terms of sorting it does this wire come from inside the car out to the diff - i.e can I pull it back through into the rear seat area, do the repair inside the car rather than scrabbling around with a soldering iron underneath and then pull it back through ?

The wire connects to the plug that should be cable tied to the steel tube on the rear seat pan that contains the fuel tank vent pipes, and there's no reason why you shouldn't replace the wire all the way back to here, if it's long enough, other than you will have to make a hole for it in the grommet that feeds the loom through the seat pan.
Alternatively, you can pull the grommet out of the seat pan, as far as it will easily come, then splice the wire to the loom on the bottom side of the grommet, but working inside the car.

Having issues with my speedo at mo, garage fixed it yest and a cple of breaks in it, worked and then packed up again after 2 miles ,got a new loom complete with both end plugs to sender and under bench

I was hoping to keep this until rear axle refurb to save chopping it , how long laboue time wise is it to do the whole wire and go back to fuel sender properly instead of splicing ? Is it tank out job ?
