I have got some rust on both the offside and nearside scuttle pannel corners, and hnow have a hole the size of a 2p on the nearside. What's the options, can you still buy the scuttle pannel section, and replace the whole lot? What's a good way to deal with it.

The only proper way to deal with scuttle corner rot is to remove the wings, bare metal the affected area, cutting the rot back to good metal and letting in some new metal,it's not too hard to form, the do the filler and primer and either mask or remove the screen and paint the scuttle panel completly, blending in with the roof halfway up the screenposts, get some waxoyl on the underside of the repair and it should last ages.

you can get the scuttle from bmw but its bull shit, as you have a vew vin number punched in and its in a different location which may put off any possible future buyer, because the car will look like a ringer

also police inspection may be required as well ( this is what i have been lead to belive!)

i have cut off the sections from recent breakers for my own cars

you can still buy a new scuttle and just cut out your bad bits and weld in new bits as it is a major job putting in a new scuttle properly .

Is it worth using filler or welding a metal plate is part of a new scuttle the way to go?

I can only speak for M3 scuttles but iv heard the new parts are shocking quality. The number is stamped on so badly it looks fake!

IMO its best to try and repair the original scuttle if at all possible.

As has been said, buy a new scuttle from BMW, and cut out the rust, and cut the ends from the new scuttle, a new scuttle is only about £40 anyway.

Depends where the rust is, if it's around the glass frame, then it will be near the dash, and will require dash removal.
