E-Numbers List
The following is a list of all the Entwicklung or E-Numbers used during BMW's development process.
Note that we've organised this list by number rather than chronologically. BMW's original E-system started at E100 with the Isetta "Bubble Car" before switching to the E3 in 1968. There are also a few oddities where BMW have recycled E-numbers; E1 and E2 are good examples of this.
Pay particular attention to the number of Electric cars BMW experimented with - the E7 project started in 1977, and the existence of E29, E33 and E37 prototypes show that BMW maintained a keen interested in developing non-combustion vehicles. The existence of the E68 "hydrogen" 7 Series is another indication of BMW's search for alternative fuels sources.
There are also an interesting number of Touring models which never saw the light of day, or which were only produced in minute quantities.
