Alright lads first post and I want your opinion on our conversion.
What would be the best (and easiest) option to convert a lhd '85 325i drift car to gain more power. It already has a btb manifold and full stainless exhaust but not enough low down power for the tight corners at the track
We have the option of gettin an e34 535i with an lsd for a good price, theres also an option of gettin a e34 525i auto. just wondering what would be better, M50 or M30
From the figures I have got the 525i is only making around 185bhp, compared to the 535i's 213bhp, so the M30 is favoured already.
any help appreciated

for drifting an m30 would be ideal, very strong.

Torque is definately the way forward for easy drifting (ie the M30) but I would personally fit the M52B28. Much more modern with much better fuel economy and still has loads of torque. You can also get more power than the M30 with a few easy mods (such as fit the 325i plenum etc). The M52 also weighs a lot less than the big 6.
I suppose for a drift/fun car you just want cheap torque though with fuel economy and weight less of an issue though.

The M30 obviously.
The torque of the 2.8 maybe there but itsn´t nothing like the 310nm´s of the M30,
don´t need all that much power to maintain the wheels speed, but you do need real low end power to
break traction when drifting in a tight corner or needing to re brake traction in a long bend,. clutch dropping is not considered cool, clever or drivertrain friendly.
I´d run a M30 turbo if I where competing

I would love to go down the m52b28 route but those engines are making a fortune here, I can only get an e34 m50 but its twice the price of the m30 and alot less power.
I think that the M30 is the best option so, I have been looking at the www.e30.de guide which seems very good, but whats the best position to go for? I would imagine poistion 3 would be the best?
