Hello all!

I'm doing some detective work on my engine and ECU. According to some text I found, the following should be correct:

320i
'82-'84 Bosch LE Jetronic 0 280 001 301
'84-'87 Bosch LE Jetronic 0 280 001 309

323i
'82-'84 Bosch LE Jetronic 0 280 001 301
'84-'86 Bosch LE Jetronic 0 280 001 308

My '84 car has since had the original 2.3 engine replaced with a 2.5 engine, as claimed by the previous owner's mechanic.

Driving around for the few months, i thought the 170hp 2.5 engine was a bit underpowered due to wear and tear. So, digging around in the engine bay, I couldn't find any indication that I had a 2.5 block... :evil: There are no O2 sensor wires beneath the battery tray/clutch reservoir. My ECU is still the original 0 280 001 301 (wasn't the 2.5 block equipped with Motronic 1.x?), thus doing the stamp-gas-pedal-X-times-to-get-blinking-LED-stuff didn't work.

My plea to the 323i owners in the forum, are there any items I should look for to ID the engine? Location of ICV, cold start injector, distributor location (mine is on LH close to AFM, not in front of block), crankshaft reference sensor, etc.

I'd probably have to run a compression test to check total engine capacity, but I'm holding that off for a bit later....

Thanks!!!!

what are the letterings on the head?
they are on the intake side above where the intake manifold bolt on

885 = 325i head and most probably a 325i engine complete
731 = 323i E30 head and thus probably a 323i engine
With great challenges comes great engineering.
