The electric hood on mine uses two motors, one to operate the hood and one to operate the deck lid, these can be disengaged using a release mechanism located at the side of each motor,if you stick you head in the boot and have a look at the bulkhead at the rear of the seats you will see some cut outs, the release arms look like tubing, stick a rod or screwdriver into the tube and pull sideways, this releases the mechanism, pull the other way and it will click back and re-engage.

I wish the power top on my 1993 E30 worked. When I hit the switch, I can hear a motor running. Have no clue which one it is or why it was disconnected.......

I would assume one of the two motors are bad. However, I have also heard of a bearring goind bad that isn't too hard to replace.

I manually operate it and have been since I got it. I have a 1990 also...and it's manual.....so already used to it.....

I have just heard a lot of horrow stories of repairs costing better than a grand.........and it's just not worth that to fix it for me.....
