Just a quick call to the experts on Emerald and MS.

What system requirements are needed on the PC/Laptop to run the software with either of the management systems?

Ive just got hold of a basic Laptop, but I dont know if it will run the software ok or if it will need more RAM etc.

Cheers

You only need a basic lap top that runs on windows i think for Emerald, i guess MS will be the same ?

I am no expert, but i think the only requirement is that it has a serial port, one with I/O on the back, which means it's a pretty old and basic laptop anyway!

Yeah, as long as it's got an RS232 connection and can run windows (95 onwards I think) you'll be fine.

Just make sure there's nothing installed that uses the COM port as that causes all sorts of problems!

Cheers guys.

Yeah, its a bit old and basic and has the serial port, but it was at my favourite price - free :D

It was built for Windows 98/NT and was running 98. Ive just installed Windows ME because 98 didnt like my Broadband connection and it seems to be running fine with ME installed.

I just wondered if there were any minimum system requirements like processor speed or RAM etc.

Think the software for the mapping is pretty basic, my laptop seems happy enough running it with a 200MHz processor and 64Mb of RAM!

Mine is a P1 133mhz 32MB win98 (starts from cold in about 15 seconds tho :D )
The software only needs win9x up.

Windows ME is the spawn of satan... but if it works for you - great :)

Can MS use a USB to serial adaptor?

I have to admit, I didnt like it when a mate first got it years back, but then I never wanted XP either - I was happy with 98 :D
Only got XP because the guy who built my PC installed XP by mistake, so I got it for free, although I cant update it at the moment because my product code isnt valid

One advantage to ME - invalid product code and I can still update it winkeye :D

Just had my mate on the phone and the Laptop is a Celeron 333Mhz with 128Mb ram, so that should be fine and dandy for the MS or Emerald stuff :D
