Hi bungling amature here , I've just bought a E30 320i. It doesn't idle properly when warm, so after some googling I decided to try to clean the ICV. Having spent about an hour looking for the thing in the engine bay, I have had to conclude that's it's not there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Were there e30's without ICVs? Where should it go if I buy a new one?
All the diagrams I can see for the M20 engines have it coming of the boot between the air-intake and the throttle body. The haynes manual only has diagrams of the M10 engine so not much help. Am at a loss.
Here is a pic of where i believe it should be -

(yes I know, I have a new boot coming this week)
Thank you,
Tim

That's what I thought. Although I've just ordered a new intake boot, specifically for a pre '87 model. And it only seems to have 1 outlet.
https://www.mecatechnic.com/en-GB/air-f ... C44035.htm
The image in the Ted's house article shows 2 outlets on the boot.
Is it possible that pre-'87 m20's didn't have ICVs ???

Yes! it's identical. Thank you I thought I was going mad.
The hose that goes under the manifold ends at the rocker cover.
Could it be this thing??

This is what that section of the engine looks like on my car. ICV suspiciously absent. Maybe you're right and somone's deleted it.

That is called the intake manifold connection flange:

On that note, I wish I could find someone to tell me how the screw found on it is properly adjusted:

i think this is how yours should be with a rubber pipe over / under the inlet manifold connecting 5 icv to 8 the rubber boot.

The ICV should be on the hose between the rubber boot and the "intake manifold connection flange", connected to the hose entering from the top?
http://anew.design/FTP/IMG_20180813_180102.jpg
I think I found the cable that connects to it, and I have ordered a new ICV online so we'll see!
Thank you very much for your help, was feeling a bit hopeless!
