I'm wanting to clean up a set of drive shafts for my rear subframe rebuild and was hoping to fit new CV joint boots but I was wondering if the BMW ones stretch over like all the ones on ebay or is there a correct way to fit them by disassembly?

Thanks Matt

you need to strip them down to fit bmw boots, it's a pain in the ass job and new BMW boots are £65 a side!!

its much easier and much cheaper to buy a set of second hand drive shafts with intact boots

the bmw boots are much thicker than than the thin rubber cr@p on ebay which i would avoid using.

Never seen a split E30 boot yet! Not only are they as tough as the proverbial old boots, but they only get operated at very shallow CV joint angles, unlike the majority of boots in use that are on steering axles.

I had a split boot on my E30.

Swapped it for a second hand driveshaft I had lying about.

If it ain't broke....

Undo the drive shaft from the diff.

Remove the dust cover.

Remove the circlip.

Use 3 legged puller to remove the joint.

Pull off old rubber.

Simples but messy.

She never noticed. SSSSHHHHH!!!

Was trying to warm the "stretchable" rubber but nothing worked.

i replaced mine only a few weeks ago and used proper dealer boots and cir clips. the best advice i can offer is to remove them from the car”¦the job is much easier and allows you the chance to clean out all the old grease etc.
