Hi lads,

I had an M50 fitted to my last car, a more door 320ia. It was a good engine wich made about 200 bhp.

Now that I have the convetible I want to do another swap. I don't want to do another m50 as this car is heavier than the 4 door so it won't be as fast.

M52 is an option but they are getting a bit common so I have been thinking about something else a little les common but I have no idea what to go for.

I don't want a v8 so that's out of the question. And m-power engines are just to expensive atm.

So maybe an m54 3.0? Or is the m52 2.8 such a big improvement on the m50 that I should just stick with that?

My m50 did 0-62 in about 6.5 seconds, did about 155 mph and I want it to be faster than that.

M50 turbo?

I doubt that a M52 will make a massive difference tbh

An M52 in a convertible won't be that much quicker that what you had.

I have an M52 in a poverty spec coupe and it hits 60 in about 5.6 seconds. Factor in a heavier convertible and you're probably around the 6 seconds mark.

If you want to build something then an M52B30 isnt a lot of work if you dont mind spending the money. Your looking at approx 240hp and 240lbft with standard engine parts and management in an alloy block. Beats an M54 hands down :D

Lol yeah... End result is a nice thought though!

I am starting a project soon and think I've decided on a Jap turbo engine for a coupe...

I'm not really looking for a "hybrid" engine build, just a straigt forward swap.
It will probably be an m52 as that will give me a little bit more power than the old m50 but wont cost me as much as an s50...

Lol v12 is not an option.

All a bit wasted in a convertible. Ideally you want something just to cruise around in with lots of low down grunt like an m30

True, if I were to put a heavyweight in it might as well be an m60 :D

I really want to have a 6pot and more than 12 valves.
Also 24v's are better on fuel than an m30 anchor...
