m52 water level

Think i have a leak on the coolant system some where.
The water level in me e36 328 rad drops around 100ml after a while(from full to the brim) which stops my fan kicking in.

Will check the heater matrix pipes the next time i'm at the garage as cant see water anywhere else .

But just wondering where does the water level sit in yours?

How do you know what the level is in the rad? You can only see into the bottle, and about 100mm down there sounds reasonable.

Shouldnt be filled to the top mate, if it is then the coolant will come out of the cap.
There is a level indicator on the side of the tank
Heater valve is the most common leak

I wouldn't even rely on that when the radiator is fitted in a car other than the one BMW intended.
As long as there's a reasonable depth of coolant in the bottle, and the level stays constant over a period of weeks, then there's not a lot to worry about.

May problem is the fan doesnt kick in when its meant to unless the bottle on the side of the rad is pratically full.

Sounds like a problem with the cap, or the bleed screw on top of the rad, take it out and check the rubber O ring is still intact, otherwise try a different cap
