Picked this up at the weekend!

its a bit battered and needs lots of tlc! mostley electrical but it drives sweet as a nut!

and sounds amazing

ill crack out the slr later and do a propa shoot but for now so shit phone pics








Plans,

Replace the back springs because i am 100% they are cut to get it that low! needs 60mm springs on the back.

fix all the electrical issues then treat it to some paint and just enjoy it

who ever owned it before must have had alot of electrical faults cos where stereo is missing there are wires just cut and left everywhere plastic panel is missing under the dash there is a lose cable hanging under the ecu, some stuff in bay isnt plugged in.

list of work to do

Rev count doesnt work
Mpg guage
Temp guage only goes to 1st notch
Oil level light is on where mirror is
coolant light is on where mirror is
not sure if service indicator stuff works lights up when ignition is on but nowt else when driving
right headlight doesnt work
right full beam doesnt work (left one is missing has air duct)
front fogs dont work
heater only works on number 4
on board computer to the left of the radio doesnt work..

oil leak from the top rocker cover
change the rear springs

Rev counter/MPG - check fuses first
Temp gauge - may have the "thermostat delete" option
Is there oil in it ? Is the wire connected to the sender
Is there coolant in it ? Is the wire connected to the sender on the expansion tank - these senders are a common failure and can be bought cheaply from GSF but there are 2 sizes so take the old one with you.
Lights - check bulbs, fuses and relays first
Front fogs - check bulbs
Heater may need a new resistor pack ( Common failure ) or may just need freeing off - access through panel in engine bay, remove the blower motor and oil the bearings.
OBC may need backlight bulb ( common failure )
Rocker cover gasket about £15 from dealer


All fairly common but fairly easy stuff to fix.

If you're gonna keep it that low you might want to make a sump-guard your first purchase before you do anything else.

i was hoping it was just all normal issues.

ill be leaving the front that low yeah. im used to having crazy low cars and never broke a sump yet! so ill just be carfull lol i had a polo with tt engine sump was crazy low on that lol.

after some 60mm rear springs if anybody has got some.

yeah coolant is full and so is the oil...the wires seem to be plugged in but where the coolant plug joins the loom seems a bit wierd some wires not plugged in etc.

It looks pretty low nearly obscenely.

First thing you want to get it throughly checked over and a good service Inspection I/II (if the cambelt and water pump not been recently changed).

wheels are lenso bsx (sadly not rs's) 7 by 16 at front and 9 by 16 at back.

pony im not sure i have a recepite here for "apex" springs and shock kit. but ive got a feeling they are spax cos the rear has adjustible dampening.

Its booked in for an inspection at a local bmw specialist on the 17th

sadly this is not my handywork lol taken it up to my mate to sort the electrics got some new springs on the way and i think exhaust is blowing and by the looks a downpipe bolt has snapped lol top half is missing the bottom half is still there. maybe an excuse for new exhaust system

well new brakes are on alarm is fited.

rocker gasket done
heater resistor done..

so half way there

i think pads where well past there sell by date

well things get better then they get worse!!

swapped the rear springs for 50mm 1's its high as fuck

so might have to try some 60mm springs all though ride is 1000000 times better

massive gear box leak i think thick sticky oil all over the exhaust and prop shaft. guess its coming from the box.

put a new coolant sensor in light didnt go out. but goes out when u test it with multimeter.

changed the batterys in my clocks etc .. but the rev counter + mpg still dont work. grrr

downpipe is blowing its bollox off and car feels well slugish

back left rear light is full of water grr cos its cracked!

and i need two new rear cv boots

Not the best person on here to be giving advice on wiring, but this is what ran through my mind:

Sensor light might be due to wiring gone bad. The multimeter then makes a good contact, making the light go out.

The rev counter sensor is on the gearbox isn't it? (someone confirm?) The CPS on the front of the engine is just for the motronic IIRC. though I remember being told/reading that RPM is measured off the flywheel. Could take a look at that and see if it is damaged, or just gone bad.

Mine had a leak at the back of the gear box, rear output seal I think? Its in my current car and been repaired 3 times, still flippin leaks though!

ah might be same then. doesnt drip into the drive or anything but under the box and exhaust is covered in propa sticky oil
