i got a new thermostat today, gonna fit it at some point this weekend. Is it just a case of undoing the bolts on top of the thermostat housing and bish bosh?

When you refill the system, make sure the heater control is set to full hot. Start the engine, put the heater fan on 1 or 2, and check that the heater begins to blow warm air after a minute or so. If it doesn't, you have an airlock at the back of the head. Switch off immediately, as you will be risking cracking your cylinder head, and search through previous threads for the procedure for dealing with it.

I find that parking the car on a slope with the front higher than the rear helps to bleed an M20 with ease.

I do. I reverse the back wheels off the ramp before filling.Demlotcrew wrote:I find that parking the car on a slope with the front higher than the rear helps to bleed an M20 with ease.

Still doesn't guarantee things though.
