Hopefully collecting the 'Maseratty' on saturday, then assess it's turdness! :)

Well folks, we got the superturd back to my mate's house today after a 250 odd mile run!

Nothing fell off (there wasn't a lot left to fall off mind), burned or cooked!
However, there are slight issues with windows, door locks / opening mechanisms, lights, exhaust, boost pipes and brakes pulling hard to the right!

Here it is in all it's ubercouncil splendour!

Yes, the inside IS toatally covered in Dulux's best white emulsion! It still stinks of it! As well as petrol, hot oil and exhaust fumes! The paint is everywhere, on the windows, trim electrics etc. The bucket seats are welded to the floor.

It actually seems to drive fairly ok for £560! :D

And the horn is a fantastic Italian "BLLAAAAAARRRR" which I must transfer to the E30!

There really aren't many levels of sophistication left on it! :)

The (alcantara) headlining is sagging down, I was nearly blinded when I tried out the heater and the vents spat out a whole load of Italian Maserati dust in my eyes and there appears to be much evidence of P38 and P40! :D

We did get some looks on the motorway, especially from this guy!

Oh, Gareth - there are cobwebs on the inside of the car too! :D

Are we allowed to enter a car we already have?

My mate has a fiesta (650) with a mondeo 2 liltre engine in (100 quid) and cosworth brakes (130) on spax second hand suspension (abuot 150) and it will wipe the floor with any e30 so could be a good entry??

On the PPC Magazine forum it has been suggested that any entrant should be willing, if selling it, to accept £999 or less to keep in the spirit of it all.

If it really did cost less than a grand to build (although that lot already adds up to more :? ) it would be a fantastic car for the job! It should be a right good laugh, good thread all about it on PPC forum. :D

Only just over a grand tho! The shell is obviously worth about 50p with it being a ford and all.

What other entrants are there martin?

So far I've heard of a rotten Jag XJS V12 (which me and Rob nearly went for) and a Golf with a 20 valve turbo engine (suspicious of that costing less than a grand to put together!), a Cortina, a Jag 4.0 litre (£300) with a cheap nitrous kit and a bloke who wants to walk round because he reckons everyone else will break down so he'll win! :snigger:

sat nav!!!!! 8O :D that looks so wrong! are you implying that the lighter socket still works?!!

in theory, a E30 335i could just get under 1k. in practice, it would have to be a turd with 220bhp to put through an open (or welded?) 4.1 diff on steelies! actually i like the idea!!!

I did think about a 335i Gareth, what with my spare engine and gearbox (£150) already in the garage but decided against it. Fancied trying a different car really, I like variety!

Sat nav was a mates one which also had battery power! We needed it from Sheffield! 8O

That golf clearly isn't under a grand! That will destroy a lot of things. 280bhp isn't unimaginable from one of those engines.

If I do enter this it will be in a 205 mi16. FWD wrongness, yay!

Just spoke to the guy who we have agreed to buy it from. Basically he wanted to sell it with his othe 205 gti breaker in a job lot but we convinced him to break that one, we keep the good bits and he scraps that shell. So basically waiting for him to strip that one and we'll pick up the 205 mi16 and a shit load of spares in a couple of weeks. All for well under the PPC price :)

Leaves us with some money to get it up to sratch and MOT'ed. Where was the challenge located again? I need to buy this magazine when I go into town next.

Dan get Emlin(spel?) to enter the turd, that will be quick.

Should be a fun little thing. Few mi16 issues that could do with being addressed before its tracked such as the potential oil starvation issue. The thing is they are a relatively cheap engine its almost worth not bothering and then replace them when they break

This one is at least running on the proper management and not an aborted 8v to 16v dizzy convertor :? Also has a reangled inlet manifold. It's sad that i'm getting mildy excited about it.

My main worry is the reliability of my chosen chariot, especially when the actuator pipe 'mysteriously appears to be full of holes'!

Damn, what a fantastic turd!

I'd happily go for a Civic Vt with suspension kit. It'd do high 14's and handle bloody well. Surely that'd be competitive?

And I should say! :D

My money is on a tuned, stripped out front wheel drive hatchback to win to be honest.
It's just the novelty of a £560 Maserati that I couldn't resist!

oil starvation only happens when the Mi16 is tilted back to get it in (extended bottom mounting fork). ideally you want to cut the exhaust manifold off at the head flange, grind and reweld at a tighter angle so it clears the bulkhead. the standard full length inlet will also fit if the rad is tilted forward. the shortened inlet manifolds tend to cause a flatspot at about 4.5k. tilt the engine right and it'll be fine. if you've not yet found it, check out the 205gtidrivers forum

i think i have a full length mi16 manifold lurking if you need one. let me know if so and i'll have a look.

Yeah I know the dramas are caused by the engine tilt angle. I need to have a look at this one to see what methods have been used. I might have that inlet manifold off you in the future if it becomes problematic. Yeah i've found that forum, ive signed up with this user name :D

Beat the fack out of the bulkhead is the council method, and it saves ruining the exhaust manifold flow. Obviously the correct way of doing it is having a manifold made up for it, but thats £Â£Ã‚£'s :o

Taa gareth for the advise and offer of bits

i have a garage full of 205 bits (doors, trim, gearboxes, bootlid, bonnet, etc) if you need anything cheap for the cause!
