Blimey must be a job taking the steering column off. I just cut the carpet, was painfull experience, dont want to do that to the cab though and looking for a way around it.

It's not that hard to take the steering column off. Hardest bit is removing the security bolts which need to be butchered with a grinder as there is no head for a socket/screwdriver etc. (unless someone has a better way?)

- They can be replaed with bolts though..

you just pus the column forward/downwards,
when all else is not in it's way.

well that's how i've removed 4 recently.

That looks supergood.....same spec as mine too ( ive got the Webber carb on mine and it goes a little better )

Mine is fine on unleaded ( its an '87 )

I say keep it standard too!

I've heard conflicting reports as to the use of unleaded in early e30s - I understand that they will all run on 95RON unleaded without detonation, but I've heard conflicting stories about whether the valve seats are up to it - I guess the best thing is to use a lead replacement additive if you aren't sure, and think about acquiring a spare head to which you can have hardened valve seats fitted if need be in due course.

Looks like a nice old chromey, and a proper first car. Congratulations!

I really want to see it now after reading the thread from page one,thought they would be on the last page,i got here and no pics!

Hopefully it has all gone smoothly and he is outside giving it a wash and polish as we speak,you know how it is when you collect a new car,you have to go over every inch of it! :D

Yep picked it up today! Was Very happy! Although by the time we got home it had started to idle really quite rough! :(
