I could do with some help/advice on what management to run my iron blocked M50B28 with.

Basically, M52B28 crank, pistons and rods in an M50 Iron block, I was planning on using a Non Vanos head with Schrick cams which would have been run on Non Vanos B25 ECU.

Ive changed it now though as I have a head from an Alpina C2 2.5 which has a Vanos inlet, so I need to use either M50 Vanos or M52 Vanos management.

I would rather use the M50 loom/ECU as it is simpler to use with the M50 manifold and I dont need to worry about wiring in any EWS. But will this need a custom chip to see the cc increase? And what about the Alpina cams, will these help or hinder a standard ECU?

If I use the M52 loom/ECU I will have to mess with the manifold wiring and sort out the EWS bits which I dont want to be doing as the engine wont be staying in the car very long. But it will have the correct maps for the cc which makes things easier, but again, will it work with the cams properly? :?
And just to add to the complication the compression has been raised slightly

Whats the best way to go? Bearing in mind this engine will need to be run in prior to any dyno/mapping sessions so over-fueling must be prevented to save damage to my fresh bores/rings :?

What do you mean by manifold wiring - do non Vanos M50s not run 2 Lambdas?

Thats right but its not a problem, I was more concerned about the inlet manifold, am I right in thinking some of the connectors are different?

I would use the M50 Vanos loom and 413 ECU which gives you the flexibililty and ease of getting a chip (as opposed to an intangible remap).

Using the Vanos head and 2.8 bottom end, a S50US B30 stock chip might do the trip.

I am thinking of doing somethin similar but with an M54 3.0L crank.

Have you considered doing a megasquirt for this?

I know some of the E36 boys are running them now as the vanos on the M50's can be controlled by it (unfortunately not on my S50 though..bummer).

Wouls give you the best tuning options but might be more of a pain. I would definately get it properly mapped (using the 423 ECU and a custom chip I spose). Plugging and playing might cause all sorts of hassles with bore wash etc.

Good luck though dude. An iron block B28 is what I wanted to build before I stumbled upon the 3.2.

Give Ant a bell, I think he used a standard M50 ecu 0n my 2.8 M50/52 hybrid, probably with a remap ?

Goes very well and returns 31+ MPG on a run, so can't be far out :D
