I've seen a few m42's supercharged with the mini charger and was wondering if the Vw G60 charger would be any good. A mate of mine has a g60 Corrado and with a few mods and smaller pulley the charger pushes 22psi and 240 bhp. To look at the charger is quite a simple design.

supose it could work, its only making boost so it doesnt matter whats making it, the only problem i could see is that after all the custome install the charger would need rebuilding every 50,000 miles ( i think that what the rebuild time was) so if you going to all the effort you would probly be better to use a rotex type charger that would last alot longer.
Also not sure on the effeicency and boost characteristics of the vain type charger

You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Anyone else ever get the feeling that VW made the G-LADER supercharger as one of their "for the sake of it" exercises? A bit like their god awful "W" engines.

no offence to anyone but maybe he asked about using a charger off another car as he might have a low budget(like me all the time) for most of you the charger kit might be cheap but alot of us it isnt so we have to use what we can get hold if via the scrappy etc

It certainly looks like that doesn't it. It couldn't be much more complicated or fragile yet doesn't perform much better than the simple roots blowers.Turbo-Brown wrote:Anyone else ever get the feeling that VW made the G-LADER supercharger as one of their "for the sake of it" exercises?
I guess the justification may have been that it's simpler to make (or was at the time) than a twin screw compressor, doesn't have the seal/guide wear problems of the sliding vane designs and doesn't suffer the horrible inefficiency problems of the roots designs.
As for putting one on an M42... you could no doubt do it and it'd probably work very well but for your money you'll get a much better condition Eaton roots blower that will do much the same job and wont blow up if you look at it funny
