Does anyone have a big-bore throttle body on a 318iS, and is there any point without also fitting an induction kit, i.e. will any gains be possible whilst keeping the standard intake gubbins (with K&N panel filter)?
I know the Zone does a BBTB for the 6-pot, I seem to remember talk about the M42 TB as well?
Cheers!

induction kit doesnt do alot - keep the standard airbox, filters the air so much better and long as you keep them clean and new actually flow better

Cheers, Johnno -
I know the standard intake is preferable under normal conditions, but was wondering if adding a big-bore throttle body was any use when keeping the air intake standard (don't want to make it visibly modded for insurance purposes).
I expect emailing throttlebodies@e30zone.co.uk will provide the answer (I think that's the address?).

I've got one, but I've also got a K&N induction kit and a Viper chip installed, along with a full stainless system...
It does run sweet though...

Yeah, I was thinking of TB and chip, but there's a mix of opinions about chips (as I think we've discussed before).
I was thnking of adding the TB first, then chipping later - don't want to do it all at once or I'll run out of jobs for the Summer!
Is throttlebodies@e30zone.co.uk still the right address?

Gererally the standard airbox/filters are fine.Although i wouldnt mind trying somthing like a BMC system, with possibly a custom heatshield/cool air feed from the grill. Might not do an amazing amount, but will help a little im sure.... and at least youll get to hear

BBTB for the M42 engine is available by email alpina527@aol.com
these engines were restricted from the factory to ensure the 320 still outsold it, there are gains to be had
I have personally witnessed a dyno sheet before and after for an iS with the (now defunct) Zone chip and A BBTB, on a cold day ( -2 degrees) we saw 173 bhp @ the fly, stock was a healthy 142 about half and hour before.

Was just gonna say I thought Giles had that monster 318is chip we've all heard rumours about and 173bhp!! Jesus.....that is a lot from a 1.8.....nearly at the infamous 100bhp/ltre mark, WOW!
Giles you better find some time for the dyno mate, see how many horses do actually stable up under your bonnet

I doubt if it's even 150bhp to be honest. 170bhp is a little optomistic for my little racer. Mind you, with all the weight saving I've done, it'll be rapid!
Haven't got the monster chip... Omi has it now... it didn't get on well with my car for some reason...

That's the idea of the BMC, no need for a heatshield...SwirlyE30 wrote:Gererally the standard airbox/filters are fine.Although i wouldnt mind trying somthing like a BMC system, with possibly a custom heatshield/cool air feed from the grill.
