I wanted to fit one of these bad boys for drifting, as the stock one is utter toss, and id rather have a rally style upright one.

thing is..... how do they work..... is it a simple case of inserting a t-piece into the rear brake line that comes from the master, or will this cause pressure back into the master..

could someone please enlighten me

cheers

Why can't you do it cartoon style, meaning have someone stood by the side of the road and throw a metal pole through the spokes of the wheel,it should stop dead, always seems to work in cartoons!

not sure hoe thet t piece will work. laws of physics state that fluid will always take the path of least reistance, so the fluid should just travel back through the port in your master cylinder, as your brake pedal is not pressed.... then when u press the brake in normal driving you may geta soft pedal due to the seals at your handbrake..
I don't like to rain on your parade. would love if some one could put me right. when doing my apprenticeship i asked about htis in college but instructor wasn't able to shed any light.
re switch for abs, will put on light til you turn off your ignition me thinks. locking the back wheels with abs connecxted wont give a problem if the brake pedal switch isn't acctivated

Karan, I don't know about E30s, but my Compact had ABS and there was only one brake line that ran to the rear and then split. (You could tap in to the front/rear line, if this is the case with E30S.)

My brake line is re-routed inside the car, and simply goes in to the HH lever cylinder, where the resevoir usually feeds, and then out again to the rear brakes, Piece of pi55 to do. (The pedal brake works fine, as normal, just pumps the fluid through the HH lever cylinder as if it wasn't there.)

It's correct that you need to retain the mechanical parking brake, but this is unaffected by the HH lever.

Great mod imo, and dead easy/cheap. (You can even weld a bracket on top of the standard parking brake to push a rod in to a Ԛ£30 Girling/willwood .625/.650 etc cylinder.)

You're laughing Karan, just tap in to the front to rear line, and 'plumb' it 'in line'. 8)

I haven't used mine yet, but I've used the same set up on loads of cars, excellent value mod. :D

If you're wanting high speed drifts/lock-ups, when your brakes aren't recently abused, standard or normal operating temperature rear pads work better ime.

They'll have bolted a mechanical/cable parking brake caliper on, because they've used a larger disc/caliper set up, that can't use the standard 'drum/shoe inside disc' arrangement for the original mechanical parking brake. 8)

Just as an idea:

Why not get the split circuit calipers from either a Volvo 2series (4pot caliper) or Volv 7series (2pot sliding caliper) and replace the rear calipers with them.

That way, you can plumb the foot brake into one circuit and the haydraulic handbrake into the other keeping the circuits seperate but conveniently housed in the same caliper.

Not quite sure how it'd work with pads though, but worth a thought? :)

yeh i thought about this... but too much hassle considering that one can just be plumbed inline
