a question from a thicko here wot exactly does a component speaker system package comprise of???

a mid bass speaker, a tweeter and a audio suppressor (little box) that splits the relevant audio frequencies to the relevant speakers

just front unless you buy another set for the rear

a component (two speakers and crossover) covers a single corner, but can be installed in any and as many corners as you like.

From experience they dont always produce the best sound, so if you are buying go some where like halfords and have a listen to the different makes and types, and see what you like

The whole point of a component system is you can get the tweeter up higher which will lift the soundstage up higher and give you a much better sound.
Component systems don't have to have a crossover, but you have to cut the corrrect frequencies on the amp, this is then called an active set up rather than passive.

Components will always give better results because install is 90% of a good set up, and having your tweeters down on the doors, or worse still in the kick panel, is always going to sound shite!!

thanx for the info guys im gonna check some out at the week end any ideas wot i should put in the rear of my 325i sport 2 give me a nice bit of bass but i dont want boom boom stuff??

6x9's mounted under the metal frame with low key grills over the top

If you are going to add some 5x9's I would snip the tweeter, so it is only mid bass coming from them and not dragging the sound stage back to the rear of the car.
I would consider adding a small amp that can drive some components up front and drive some tiny subs in teh back, you can get something like the Pioneer 8" shallow mount subs then and they sound superb for their size.
