Hi,
Bought a '91 318iS a few months ago with lots of small problems that need sorting.
Been trying to get the trunk sealed up so we can actually put something there without it getting soaked.
We've changed the boot seal, found and temporarily sealed a rust hole near the boot seal, changed the rear light seals and got around to replacing the petrol pipe rubber boot today.
That's when we finally saw just what a horror show we have here
What I want to know is just what is missing or wrong here, and what pieces are needed to put it right. Thanks for any help you can give.
Cheers!
Pic of rubber boot-big holes in it too.

Next with the boot removed.

Looked inside the boot towards the petrol pipe when I saw this!

Which gives me a swimming pool in the back.

Cheers for the pic of how it should look, I see some serious metal work in this car's future, but it'll have to wait until the spring.
Until then, I'll treat her like a boat with a slow leak....keep bailing so we don't sink!!

The inner arch is made of 2 bits. Your inner outer arch needs replacing, if that makes sense! Your outer arch probably also needs doing, they all go here.

Hi ,

I have same problem with mine with rust in the same place. Doesnt look as bad as yours though.

Have a few pics of my rear inner arches will post them in a moment. Could be a good thread to start with common areas to look at for rust!!

Its amazing when you start poking about with a screwdeiver how much rust is under the original BMW underseal.
I am in the process of scraping it off at the moment and treating it with POR15 and dinitrol.
Hopefully it should keep the rust a bay for a while .
I havnt got a pic of the hole up behind the filler neck yet . Will get one this week and post it.

A good idea that, have a thread with common areas to search for and if unlucky find rust. Even better to close the process and have one of the experts show the typical repair method with pics so that we can see the right way to fix the car, maybe this should be a sticky? I have seen an extensive thread by beardyman that chronicles his renovation job, really a good example of how to proceed I'd think.
As for me, I have only had my car for a few months but I'd like to keep it on the road for a long time to come. :D

Saloon E30's are desperate for rusting around the ass, in fact scrap that they are desperate for rusting. I was thinking of buying an IS on ebay but this has reminded me of another reason I switched to tourings.
