if you set your sights low its not hard to achieve them......goosiegander wrote:When i look at my e30 i know i'm lucky enough to own the car i always wanted...
i cant say my e30 is a car ive always wanted but it serves its purpose for the moment. the amounts of cash ive spent over the years on 'projects' could have bought me a serious sort of new car but i much prefer my individually modded older car for the something different from the norm feeling
I know what you mean. The problem is now I have had her for 4 years and can only realistically run one car I can't find anything to replace it withgoosiegander wrote:When i look at my e30 i know i'm lucky enough to own the car i always wanted...
An Elise s1 ir s2 would be great but not the best car for the weekly shopping. New Europa has a slightly larger boot but way out of my price range.

That's what i couldn't really find the words for !goosiegander wrote:When i look at my e30 i know i'm lucky enough to own the car i always wanted...
I couldn't agree with this statement more. I wanted one of these when i was a teenager and they were obvioulsy way out of my league then. Now i have one, it doesn;t seem to matter that it's that old or that long since they were new, it's that iconic shape and that front end that i really did always want.
I never really thought i had set my sights low wanting one of these so i'm dead happy to drive it now. This is the 4th E30 i've owned since 1999 and i've thought the same with each one - the car i wanted when i was 17 and now i've got it. The only way i could better it now is to get a 325i S and that will come with time but the look of the car is exactly what i wanted back then and memories of the 80's are among the best of my life.

its got a luvly bum and looks good with its top off !!

I can't single-out one "best thing", but here are a few of the things I like about e30 ownership.
It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.
It was designed at a time when cars had charisma.
The sound of that M20 when it's above 4.5k rpm.
Every time I have to take it to a garage (for a job I can't do at home) I get compliments about it when I go to collect it.
Even Wor Lass (who hasn't a clue about cars and doesn't usually care) will occasionally say "Your car does look good, doesn't it?"

It being the first car you ever bought, the only one you've ever wanted since you used to fall asleep in your dad's on the way back from South Wales to Leeds on the weekends as a 3-4 year old, and planning to keep it forever. And then, finding out by chance the one you bought on Ebay was the same one from all those years ago - with a number plate change having had a private number plate. Chances of that eh?
