I really enjoyed my first track day the other day, but at a total cost (inc fuel) of £230 a day its a tad expensive. I am hoping to find one or two other people in the area - Southampton, Chichester, Worthing etc who is up for sharing the cost of a fairly cheap track 325i - £1000ish and then all taking it in turn to drive at track days. This would then take the price down to under £80 per head all in and would mean I could afford to do may more days. With the open pit lane days all three drivers would still get a really good session each.

Let me know if you are interested

There is alot to consider before you start sharing a car.........

Who pays if the engine goes bang - you limit yourself to 5500rpm the other guy limits himself to 7000rpm.

He is hard on tyres and brakes you arent. Do you expect him to pay more?

Someone crashes, who pays?

He can make a track day, you cant, can he use the car?

He does more laps than you, does he pay more towards it than you?

This and many other questions need answering. Friendships can easily be lost with such a venture

Wish I was old enough to join in the venture with you... but being 20 and not much driving experience I am a total liability, lol.

You need a good mate and a relaxed attitude to succeed at that. If the car goes bang, gets written off etc etc....just shrug your shoulders and get on with fixing it. Do NOT get anal about how it's treated. Buy cheap car, spend minimum needed to make it road/track worthy then just enjoy ragging it on track.

I did it with a mate a few years back with a 2.8 Capri. Bought it as an MOT failure for a few hundred quid, hired a mig welder patched it up, stripped it then just uprated brakes and suspension. Used it for a couple of years, did loads of track days in it, mostly at Goodwood when you could do a whole days 'testing' for about £150. Was brilliant fun, had no real problems. Looked a right shed as well, a sort of dull metallic green, no bumpers, one white door, a few dents and the odd bit of rust.

I think the whole car stood us in at about a grand, sold it for bits in the end.

We can work out the details later, I am not tight and as long as who ever want to do it with me isn't either then no problems. I have found one mate who is fairly interested but I really want to split it three ways.

cheers Dan
