hi, can some 1 help. i put my head back together last week and since then the car is struggling with starting up 1st thing in the morning, or if i leave it for over 6 hours. it takes about 4 turns to get it started. after that it starts 1st time every time, i cant figure it out. also wen i drive then stop at traffic or lights the idle jumps to 1 1/4 then 2 seconds later settles to where it should be, could this be linked, advise will be much appreciated

I would look for a vacuum leak/split vac hose somewhere.

The split around the bellow could cause a vac leak, these are prone to splitting. IIRC they are about Ԛ£13 from ECO or GSF.
If you have just replaced the chip on a car it will take a while to settle down and run right.
What I normally do when I have had the battery off or been playing with the engine management system is drive for about an hour. It seems so sort itself out nicely then.

I meant to say ECP not ECO - doh.
The breather pipe might not help with air leaks, so it's probably worth changing too, I cant see them being expensive and it might stop an oil leak too...

this seems like a common fault with the head been replaced as mine is doing the exact same! so why was the car fine before replacing the head and soon after replacing the head it all starts???

All those 14 year old + hoses get disturbed when the head is taken off and can crack as they go brittle.
The trouble with garages is they quote Ԛ£XXX to do the head gasket and they are held to it, so things get missed like a tiny split in a vac hose as they do them as quickly as possible.
