Hi guys, iv got a cab at the minute, and want to redo my install to get a bit more bass into the car. Im wondering if anyone has installled a set of 3way components into their cars, and if so any pics? I was wondering about putting the sub part of this setup under the front seats, like in the new e90 series? would this sound any good, or am i waisting my time? also does anyone run elemental designs stuff in there car? thanks in advance, Chris.

i have two way components in front of mine and they sound great, really lift the sound out of the footwells. can only assume three ways to be even better if you can find places to mount then properly. i was thinking about an amp under the seats, but there are air vents under them that might cause a prob, ie overheating the amp and generally being a pain in the ass. i gave up and shoved it in the boot :D good luck

I sorry may not have been very clear, i was thinking of putting the sub part of a 3way system under the seat not the amp. Iv currently got 2ways but am fancying a complete change around, and debatting going 3way as to get a bit more mid bass/bass actually inside the car as the rear firewall seems to sap most of the bass. Also aiming more towards sound quality... :D

When you say "the sub" part under the seat,i take it your referring to a 6 1/2" mid bass driver?

If so,then some Audioscape door pods would do the trick,or the cheaper Audiosport ones to house the mid bass units

There are some dedicated 6 1/2" subs out there, although not many.
MB Quart used to make them, dunno if they still do (I have a pair fitted into my door builds).

An 8" mid bass driver or sub would certainly allow for lower freq's in the front, again, there are some available, but don't expect the same levels as you'd get from a pr of dedicated 8"/10"/12"/15" subs in a sealed or ported enclosure

i was thinking put a/or a pair of subs in the boot and then a set of 3ways int the front ie, a tweeter, midbass, and bass such as these, but will almost certainly be second hand...

In that case, the door pods from audiosport would probably do for the mid bass drivers, with the mids in the footwells and the tweeters may actually fit in the OE tweeter pods if you can find some.

Best to check with audiosport to make sure they're deep enough for the mid bass speakers 1st

The only reason i was thinking under the seats was so i could keep the car looking as standard as poss, and practicle as its my daily driver. if not i can always make some pods so as to house them, im not bothered about that, ill just pick up a spare set of door cards.. :D

To put the mids and tweets so far apart might ruin the phase alignment a bit.. I was thinking of making some door builds that extend up higher than some, fitting the 6.5's and mids in them, then the tweeters in the std locations so that the speaker tier up the door.. As slim as possible and trimmed to match the doors.

I got some KEF tweets and dynaudio dome mids to do just that but haven't got round to it yet.

Just a thought.

They look like they'd sound really good if you can handle that intrusion into the dash area... Bit in ya face but cool none the less. I prefer a more conventional look but he's done it really well.

Just went and look at my dash and I dont think I could handle it in an e30.. So I did this out of sheer boredom to get across what i'm gin gto do:

(obviously it'll look a lot less shit)

yea that looks good, but think id rather have them higher up, try and raise the sound stage a bit more. Hes used 2.5" mids and tweeters, so ill have to keep my eyes open for some of those as my 5.25s will be huge up there! by the way loving homer sneaking in there...lol.

I have Dynaudio dome mids which are about 2-3 inch. Have a look at Morel domes.. Trés nice, with a really good off axis resopnse and quite cheap. If you are going to go passive crossover with them though bear in mind you'll have to make the crossovers yourself as I think they are 8 ohm..

You cant keep homer out unfortunately..
