Interesting thread. I'll be watching this one.

Was there a 16v head ever made that would fit the M10 excluding the S14?

Hi

You can take a m10 to 2.3l I have block bored to 94mm, but a 02 crank is cheaper and forged, and s14 crank works well with m30 pistons and gives about 2.2l.

There are 3 16v heads for the m10 s14 head about £500 used, schntizer 16v + bmw m12 head which are about 5-10k used.

M10 in endurance race trim about 230-40hp full race group 2 e21's were about 260hp.

But if you want m10 power turbo it.

I'm in the middle of sorting a power upgrade for my e21. As things stand I am going with a 2002 crank and pistons in my existing block. I COULD bore out to 92mm and use some custom pistons (standard M10 block can't go over 92mm without hitting water), but that'd only give me 2.1L for a LOT more money, and probably isn't worth it.

I will be using s14 throttle bodies/injectors (courtesy of e21_jason!) a lightened flywheel (if he ever tells me if it's an M10 or S14 one), a 284 cat cam, maybe some forged/billet rockers, and will have a slightly higher than 6000rpm limit.

So what power to expect - I'd be happy with 150ish, may get more once I get the megasquirt tuned properly, but really have no idea what it'll do until I get it on a dyno though!

M10B18 with 92mm M30 535i pistons (2.1L) , std rods and crank, 292 D'Bilas cam (clockwise), Racetep 4 into 1 US spec 2.5" equal length header (modify steering column), Mikuni GSX1100 with 190 mains on 290mm x 36mm inlet tract.
It's either this or the motor/box combo from the E34 525i I just PX'd. As I have done most of the work on the M10 already, I am inclined to stick with this.
I saw a Shnitzer head for sale in the states, massive money!
Have a look at Korman Fast BMW and Top End performance sites in the states, but keep in mind the smog laws they have there are very restrictive. :D

Hey Lance1a

92mm pistons with 71mm stroke standard crank would give 1888cc, or are you using a 2002 crank??

Your setup sounds a bit like what I am doing, look forward to seeing some dyno figures.

I started to write a reply but the zone went down last night.

You are quite right, I made the mistake of basing by calculations on a 02 block. So now it's a case of trying to find either an 02 block or an 02 crank. This might swing the swap in favour of the M50B25 though. There was a guy in Essex who had a complete motor for sale, but I have lost his details. The problem is that those with the odd bits and bobs for these cars charge the earth for them.
Oh, well....looks like it might be the 6 pot after all! :(

i'm also in the progress of building an m10, i'll be using a 2002 block crank and rods, m30 pistons and a 1.8i head, and a holset turbo

not sure what power it will bring, i'll just wait and see :D

Fritz's bits have at least one 2L M10 around, E21 engines but same thing.

I scored an o2 crank off ebay for £25, last one I missed went for a fiver!
