I have been drifting my 325es for a while now and am looking for a new car to drift. My frined was telling me about a e30 ix that was convereted to rwd for drifting he said somthing about how the ix chassic can allow for more steering angle the way the front frame rails are made. I know that the front strut towers are angled back for more neg. caster as well but that is all i ready can think of. I have not been able to find anything on this but i would like to know more about it. And yes i know this sounds crazy. but anything is possible these days.

The iX can 'self-convert' to RWD when the splines on the forward propshaft fail , or you could just remove the transfer box, front diff and driveshafts. Waste of time in my opinion, the standard e30 is a much better start point - it's lighter, simpler and doesn't have a viscous LSD that will overheat and open up if used too hard.

That said, if you can get enough power out of the old B25 to spin all four wheels, that would be very cool.

well from he was telling me is that the ix drive train was removed and a 325i motor and trans was used in its place. But yes i agree it would be cool to have a awd drift car that would drift like a dream.

wouldnt that be a lot of work? i thought the ix floorplan was significantly different, or is that only at the front for the transfer box etc.

I just got off the phone with one of my good friends and guess what he needs a clutch in his e30 ix wow what luck when i pull the trans. out i will see what the differences are for my self and what it would take to do something as crazy as im thinking about doing my self if it is worth while. :?

I work for bmw for a bmw stealer ship in the US :( if that makes any sence. I dont really like working at a dealer ship but it has its payoffs so give and get i guess.
