I have decided to persue the 318is as opposed to the 325i to get more mpg. What makes an 318is a 318is? what should I be looking for under the bonnet and elsewhere? does anyone have a pic of a 318is engine they could send me please? I need it asap thanks.

Another one to join the Debating crew against 6 pots winkeye

Things to look out for are all the usual e30 shell and chassis stuff obviously
Then your going to have to pay particlur attention to a noisy tappy or wishy engine or just walk away if it rattles at around 3-4000 rpm

The slight tappiness will be the hydrualic lifters and the wishing or rattling will be from a worn timing chain.
Parts for this will come to around £250ish plus labour, Was nearly 400 euro for the time I did mine doing the job myself
M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream

Everything on the 318iS is different compared to the 318i; sports seats, sports suspension, larger exhaust, disc brakes all round, BBS alloys and a 16 valve cylinder head.

I had a noisy timing chain on mine but a new tensioner and a days work sorted that out.

4 cylinder or 6 cylinder(pistons) up to 2.0 are 4 pots. 2.0 and above are the far superior 6 pots.

I see how who managed to differentiate between the proper 4 pot there, Fuzzy winkeye

Meh, I'm happy out with making choice on having an iS anyway.

Trust me, if any one of ye were living in Ireland and being a student, you'd quickly see how a 325 is bad choice thinking with your head.

It's about the only decision I made with my head, lol

the iS coupe is a great car and far better balanced than a 6 pot coupe. Where it all counts is in the handling. So touring 6 pots rule!

But if i lived in Ireland with all those country roads i would have either an iS or an M3 :>
